I took a drive to Weehawken, NJ to check out the rumors / reports that a Formula 1 race is brewing over there by the Hudson River. As it turns out, a huge F1-spec garage is going up across the street from the Port Imperial Ferry terminal. Officially, it's a "parking garage" for the commuters but the construction guy I spoke to said the structure was being built, "stronger than any other parking garage I have seen in 24 years of doing this..." His thoughts - a hotel would go on top. My thoughts - High Roller suites (like they have at Indy). (See picture)

He also said that in the town hall (he is a local) they have a huge Tilke map of the F1 circuit - complete with where the grand stands will be.

Finally, I drove the circuit (in heavy mid-day traffic) - all 3+ miles. Some quick corners, some tight corners and one heck of a 200MPH possible section.

I can't wait to go. Maybe by 2013 Ferrari will have a competitive car? In any case, this will be the hottest ticket in town.

In my country what you are doing here is called getting the pan hot, while the fish is still in the sea.

This project is VERY well known. Christy made a public announcement via press conference some time ago and laid out the whole plan. Look down a few threads, there is one already going with any and all information you could ever need on the NJGP.

    New Joisey F1? Fuggedaboutit. ;)

Get ready for a revival of the jokes about hiring locals who can remove wheels faster than the pit crews. :p

Dated a girl who lived in Hoboken back in the day. Brought her home and went looking for my car - oops! (Not a Ferrari...) Missing and taken for a joy ride. Cops found it abandoned in the tunnel - half way to NYC, gas tank empty, lights on.

Having said that, I suspect that security will be very good.

The one thing that has me concerned is how people are going to get there. Public transportation to there sucks quite a bit from any part of NJ north of there. From NYC I guess its not too bad with the ferries and from south of Port Imperial there is the light rail.

I gotta say, the thought of this race is much more appealing than Texas... I'd go if it happens.
