Hmmm, I don't disagree with the uncommon car in excellent condition approach, but it shouldn't matter about "who knows who".

Would it not have been more appropriate for a message to have been sent out to all members of the FCA some weeks back informing them of the opportunity to display and drive at the Grandprix and asking for EOI's? The decsion could then have been based on model, condition and (finally) drawing names from a hat if necessary.

That's exactly the process other car clubs followed and there were no complaints because it was a fair and transparent process. Sorry if I am offending anyone but someone has to say it and this is a club we've pay to join after all.

Yes that's the one, It is a brilliant 348, colour coded, 355 wheels (spaced out) and lots of other subtle enhancements. Owned by a member and contributor here who also displayed at last years GP. These cars our out on public displays in virtually uncontrolled areas so few members go to the trouble and risk for a couple of lousy general admission tickets.
I also had two cars there last year and again this year and wondered why there were only 6 cars in a display that the GP commission had allocated 10 places for. I only found out about the "special invites" after arriving on the Wednesday to deliver my cars. I was a little disappionted that my 2 concours cars were out in the elements for 4 days in exchange for two general admission tickets while the cavalcade cars were under cover and the owners were treated to numerous benitits, but understood other more long standing and contributing members had cars similar. But not one 348!! in the cavalcade when one of the best is sitting out in the rain on the other side of the track---how can this happen?

Some people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.

The work and organisation that was put in to making the Cavalcade work and all some people can do it b!tch and moan and find fault.

Just in case anyone's looking for the positives, which seems unlikely, the whole event was organised brilliantly. 60 cars all turning up at pretty much the same time, expected and all organised....filed in and backed into their 'garages'. No sooner were the cars parked, then the ropes were put up and there was 24 hours security in place from then on.

We then went to the carousel for breakfast where we were treated to a couple of speeches and a video as well as a talk from Peter Lowe, the grandson of the great W.H. It seems that, at the age of 7, he was the first person to drive the first Aussie delivered Ferrari.

After that it was time to do our laps. We were given a briefing, and then we filed out in numerical order. All this time I'm still thinking "something's going to stuff up, as usual" but nope...still all good. As we drove in single file onto the track, we had people standing 4 deep taking photos, cheering and waving.

Out on the track, we managed a few good squirts. The cars sounded awesome with the sound bouncing off the concrete barriers. It was a buzz seeing all the F1 fans AND the flag marshalls cheering, waving and taking photos as we drove by. I think we all take our cars for granted after a while, but it looked to me like it's not only the owners who enjoy these cars.

After the laps, it was back into the garages and, much to my surprise, the ropes were up before I'd even managed to get out of the car! Impressed! I can't tell you how many times, over the years, I've seen people with prams and kids scraping along the side of the cars while trying to squeeze past. It was a relief not having to worry about that.

We had the option of picking up the cars on Sunday night or Monday morning. I decided to pick mine up on Monday morning. I went there expecting the worst, but imagine my surprise to find my car being the last one there, but the ropes were still up and there were still two security guards making sure all was well!!

Congratulations to the organisers from the FCA and Ateco for putting together a really fantastic, enjoyable and faultless event.

    ..Ha ha oh spare me ...this list simply proves my point... 4 X 246, 3 X 365, 5 X 360, 5 X tessta's 5 X 430... come on now. This is a good spread !!

And two dealerships allowed multiple entries..!!??

Humour me... print the list with car owners/drivers listed.

1/ How many drivers/passangers were club members (as opposed to family/mates)
2/ How many members had multiple cars entered
3/ How many entries are current/past committee members of the various clubs...!

but it seems you certainly had a good time !

.... yes this is me... loud tubi and all. I did thoroughly enjoy my time there meeting both incredibly enthusiastic public members who simply adore cars like ours and of course the "Southern Chapter". A great bunch who I look forward to catching up with later.

Gave a few people a chance to have a sit in the car and take some pics. They were over the moon about it. particulalrly one young chap who I'm fairly sure was unwell with MS or some such thing. To see how they sat it in my car as if a dream came true reminds me of how we take our privileged positons of owning one of these things for granted sometimes. I know well that when I was younger I too was one of these dreamers.

... I can't comment as I was not one of the many not contacted... As for the car well there were no 348's at all so probably had a potential space there however as for the following .......

The chances of attending would be be higher if the organiser was aware of you ( ie active in the FCA) , it was uncommon car and it was in excellent condition.

..... probably highlights my point more than anything.. I often go on monthly fun runs. particularly the winery runs, I have attended many AGMs and concourses and the F1 the last couple of years with my car. This is the first time Ferrari-Vic actually had a display thanks to Peter. Previously I had attened through Shannons.

Similarly I have attended Phillip Island for the last 6 years since the beginning. This was again the first time the club was there. Great to see this happening by the way.

And of course I regularly post annoying chats like this on this forum... ;-)

So as I first implied in the begginning it seems not who you know but who knows you in this club (Reminds me of the current Gillard govermnet ha ha !!)

Another dissident...... ha ha ..Oh 'Aircon' won't be happy with you.... !

Yes having been a member of the Alfa Romeo club for some 20 years this is what you would think would have been appropriate. Im told a similar scenerio occurred with the 50th Anniversay celebrations as well !

In any case I have no doubt we have struck our names off the next "Private Invites" list for whatever occasion comes up next..!

The FCA NSW placed the information of the event in the NSW magazine in February. The Committee felt this was a fair way to handle the situation.

Forgive my ignorance, but WTF is a "360 GTS" and a "360 GTB" ?

I thought the last "GTS" was the 355 (ie. mine, with only 74 RHD F1 cars produced)?

It was always my understanding that the 360 coupe was called the '360 Modena' (never F360 or 360GTB) and the hd spec the 360 Spider (never F360 spider or 360GTS).

    Exactly.

I always understood the 360 was either a Modena, Spider, or a CS (Challenge Stradale - Mmmm).
