Hey guys, Been lurking here for several months. Thought it was time for my first post. I've been a Porsche guy for as long as I can remember but have been feeling the itch for the last year to get something Italian! My current "fun" car is a 1997 RUF 993 Turbo R. It's been a labor of love this project and I've thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Don't think I could ever bring myself to sell the RUF (even though I flirted with the idea of trading it for a Stradale a couple of years back)! I'm hoping to get my hands on a 360 spider one of these days soon. I've read all the posts on buying tips which have been hugely helpful. I recognize many of you from other boards and have been on a couple drives with some of the Ferrari guys in NorCal. Seems like a great community here at Ferrarichat. Look forward to hopefully contributing soon. In the meantime here are some pics of the RUF. Cheers! seen your car on other forums. probably my favorite porsche ever - lurked and looked at pics as you were doing upgrades (rear bumper, etc). i'm in love with your car. good luck with the possible F-car. get that CS.
Wow. Just wow. That makes my 993TT look a bit homely. I agree. Don't ever sell it...unless it's to me. Would you like a 2005 F430? I need to take a newer pic of my P-car, but it's in the shop right now. I have the Euro bumpers now, front and rear. Also GT3 seats from a 996, for when I was tracking it extensively. What a beauty It's funny how some cars are timeless... they were really hot then, and somehow they are hot now... Get the CS and you'll have two of those rare cars in your garage
I had a 1996 RUF just like yours, moved into a 2007 spider last spring, no regrets, but I was able to beat on the RUF more than I do on the 430. I worry about stomping on the F1 trany off the line and that was my favorite activity in the RUF. You get much more attention in the Ferrari because most people don't know what a RUF is. Maybe I'm still learning the 430's handling characteristics, but I think the RUF handled much better through the curves. If you can afford both, do it, I miss my RUF.
here are some side by side comparison. Porsche is even in the right color Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Ruf Turbo R never gets old. We had our 993TT converted in 1997 with the Ruf engine and suspension. Your red Ruf looks great! Image Unavailable, Please Login
A nice black 360 spider would look great next to your RUF. Red interior Cars looked great for years glad to see you are still driving her.
Nice Ruf! Love 993's. 993's remind me bit of the CS... old school, gorgeous lines and cult following. Drive a CS and a 360 spider and pull the trigger on the one that speaks to you. Best of luck on your search!
Hey guys. Thanks for all the comments. These 993's do seem to have aged pretty well. I'm definitely holding on to the RUF for now. She's been a great car and pulls like a freight train for a 15 year old car. RUF knows how to make them go!! Here's a link that documented some of the build. It has been a fun project... http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/993-turbo/120094-shes-back-ruf-993-turbo-r.html
A few more pics for those that requested. Now all I need is a ferrari!! Cheers, Kevin Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
after a car like that I would get a stradale... very nice Ruf! A warning.. I used to be a Porsche guy until I got my 360. Now I'm a ferrari guy. only rub I have with Porsche, is how common they are in general. For driving though they are a bit more composed and refined IMHO..
The fastest car I've ridden in was a RUF GT2. That being said, once you have a taste of that snap throttle response of a modern Ferrari, it's tough to go back to forced induction.
