Today was a veritable Ferrarifest for my seventeen year old daughter and I. We picked up the 458 from my dealer this morning, on her birthday of all days.

A few of photos and some very preliminary thoughts:

COLOR: I am thrilled with color, Scuderia Red. It is intense, and just perfect for this car. I wanted white, but finally decided that if I was doing a special order Ferrari, I just had to do red. I also loved yellow, so I compromised and did something light and really bright, but still red. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

CALIPERS: My theory here was that because the calipers are a mechanical element of the car, they should not necessarily match the color of the body. I wanted to avoid yellow on a red car, as it reminds me of Ronald McDonald. The brochure cars use silver calipers, and I like them. I think it works on this car, but they would match better with the silver forged wheels as opposed to the diamond cut wheels, which I bought. Black calipers would also work on this car.

INTERIOR: A home run, if I do say so myself. We specced Scuderia red for the stripes and it turned out awesome. I avoided gratuitous and purely cosmetic CF and I'm glad I did. This is all a matter of taste, but Ferrari's bean counters all hope that YOUR taste leans toward CF. :)

THE SUV RIDE HEIGHT: Wow, that nose is waaaay up in the air. It just looks goofy. There is a reason Ferrari's glamour shots all feature HEAVILY lowered cars: they just plain look better. I think about an inch needs to come of the front, and maybe half that off the rear.

THE SPORT SILLS, OR LACK THEREOF: What do you think of the body colored sport sills? I ordered it this way specifically so that I could wrap it grey and then reverse it. I'm inclined toward the darker sills, but help me out here.

PARKING SENSORS, NAV, SAT: I did not order these. I plan to use this car mostly for blasts down my favorite canyon roads: these options are useless to me. They are also cosmetic blemishes, IMHO. I can see, however, that they would be useful if I used the car differently than I do. I did give in and get Cruise, but I have not yet noticed the hair trigger throttle that others have mentioned.

YELLOW TACH: Not a home run. I would do black next time. Yellow is a bit hard to see, but certainly not terrible. My instinct was for black, and I should have stuck with it. Oh well, its a lovely problem to have ordered the "wrong" color tachometer on a new Ferrari. I think I'll survive :)

    DRIVING IMPRESSIONS: Stay tuned...

One more thought regarding fit and finish and paint quality. I am totally satisfied. I noticed NONE of the paint problems others have expressed concern over. General quality appears to be better than my 43O.

I agree I think the paint is better than the F430.

I saw a white one in LA today. It did nothing for me. Looks like the inside of a refrigerator. Red -- that's the color!

I love those seats BTW. I would do all black but the constant Vegas sunshine is just too much! :)

I do like the silver calipers. You are making me wonder now about RED. They look really "mechanical" and do pop off of the CCB disc.

I also don't care for the lower sills in black. To me, it looks artificial. The natural sills look like a design detail. Black sills make it look like you're trying to hide them.

The "hair trigger" throttle comments come from the first cars. Later software changes moderated this. I have no problem using the throttle at all. It seems really natural. But, after you get that car broken in, take it to the redline and see what all the excitement is about!

    Gorgeous.

The silver calipers look great with those wheels.

Sorry to hear the yellow tach is not so great on the 458.

    The interior is a stunner.

BTW Where are you located? Nice mountains.

I agree on the yellow tach. It is deeply recessed and not backlit without headlamps on. It is very hard to see in some daylight situations. If I get another one the tach will be white.

I would add how much "work" and thought go into "the dream". As one who has spent hours on configurators and chatting on this forum, I can attest to the challenge. Great fun is it not? Best

I have the black tach and it works well. I like the darker sills personally as it seems to give the 458 a nicer, slimmer profile IMHO. Your car is beautiful and the interior is spot on IMO. Racing seats with alcantara, contrast stitching and center stripe. Perfect!

Canyon Park Technology Center in Orem by any chance? I had no clue you lived in Utah, good to know!

Car looks great, I think Rosso Scuderia works very well on the Italia.
