I feel so sorry for nico and michael...mercedes giving false hope during qualifying only to prove to be slow two races in a row.

The stage was previously set to have Perez in a Ferrari by Austin, the podium finish ( behind Alonso ) is a good thing for all involved.

Regardless of circumstances / funding, Perez has ability !

Fernando is not "scared" of anyone... He has one of the harder heads in the sport and it's serving him well.

I don't dislike Rosberg but he never seems to do anything in races.

Schumie was tagged and finished ahead of Rosberg.

No question. My point wasn't about him being afraid of the second driver, it was towards Ferrari diverting more attention off of his own car and requirements. I believe Massa's increasing haplessness can only be a boon for Fred.

As an example, I'll use the 2012 Malaysian GP...;)

I don't hate the flat bills but the sunglasses he and Kimi wear are FRUI-TY.

Kimi had a nice, quiet, controlled race with a good result. Very impressed with his comeback so far.

I was just doing some quick math, had Perez won the race, it would look like this.

    1. HAM 30 pts
    2. PER 29 pts
    3. ALO 28 pts
    4. BUT 25 pts
    5. WEB 24 pts
    6. VET 18 pts
    7. RAI 16 pts

    SO CLOSE!

It's not just the front end. The Ferrari is a pile. This race win was a gift from the F1 race gods. The fastest car on track was a Sauber and Hamilton was pretty much the only driver out there who ended in a reasonable place. I wouldn't even call this mess a race. More of a.....mess with tire changes.

You were clearly watching a different event to the one I saw. It was a great race. Who wants to watch 20 races that are all predictable?!

Once again, rain is the great equalizer. It can make champs look like chumps and chumps look like champs!

It was pointed out that Perez is the first Mexican on a GP podium (though they really didn't have podiums in those days) since Pedro Rodriguez at Zandvoort in 1971. Interestingly, that was also a wet race, and Pedro's nemesis was: a Ferrari! Driven by Jacky Ickx to victory.

In that race, world-champion-to-be Jackie Stewart finished a lowly 11th, 5 laps in arrears, let down by inferior tires. And the Ferrari 312 B2 turned out to be an inferior chassis that year, the victory being due to a superior rain driver with superior tires. The parallels to today are quite interesting, with only the tires not being a factor.

What a race, glad I stuck around for the whole thing. Amazing drive by Alonso to get the win and the team helped as well with the strategy.

Perez did fantastic today and watching him shed +1.5 seconds against a former world champion is breath taking. All the credit to Alonso but I still think Perez should have been on the top of the podium today. The engineer shouldn't have mentioned anything about "needing that position" and let the young lad race his race.

Congrats to the many others scoring in the top ten today in a rather thrilling race.

Currently reading back all the updates.

Btw, F1 News Update tweet that ''Should have an award at the end of the season for the best gazebo @MercedesAMGF1''. What is the whole story all about? What's a gazebo?

A fun mess :) I still see the order as Mclaren and then Red Bull etc on dry days. We will see again in China soon.

The fastest cars at the end were Kimi, Webber and Perez (who had the hards versus inters on Alonso and Hamilton, among others).

That "pile" wasn't much slower than Hamilton and quicker than the bigger piles painted all silver. ;)
