Hi, I'm still looking at options to import a Testarossa from the UK & have come across a guy by the name of Wayne Davies who seems incredibly knowledgable about the whole process, says he's an Aussie based in the UK & can handle the whole process.
He called me & spent a long time on the phone to me & seems to know all the issues.
Anyway dealt with him & have any comments, thoughts or problems?

There seems a lot of "gotchas" with the whole import process & havig someone over there seems like a great way to reduce some of the risks.

Of course you are putting a lot of trust in them!

    Cheers,

    Gary.

That's interesting. Why wouldn't you just do it yourself? I've done it and so have many others.

Also, the name rings a bell. Just hang five..someone will remember something.

    It's no big deal.
    Why pay the middleman.
Locate a car and organise an inspection by a reputable firm , preferably one not suggested by the vendor. Arrange shipping and you are done.
A pre 88 testarossa will not need compliance. Just blue slip , register and you are ready to go.

Why would having 'someone' over there reduce the risks?
Would it not increase the probability of risk?
It seems you have been contacted by this 'aussie' who does it "all the time" (= + min10%?).
Perhaps mystery man is actually selling you something.
    Broker?
If you are going to chuck 50k to the wind, I wouldnt trust a stranger.
It will cost you the best part of 10k to land the car.
I imported after paying good money for a PPI from a 'respected' well known London based ferrari specialist QVL; which was close to a complete waste of money.
Middle people have no interest or responsibility at the end of the day.
Bit of a 'Wombat' type scenario. (eats roots & leaves)

    As suggested above DIY.
Start with DFAT regarding import regulations.
It has been suggested to me the regulations lately changed & individuals no longer allowed to import.
(Icould be wrong-but trust my scource)
The need for an import broker implied.

A 0.01 second net search will yield all you need to know.
    Caveat Emptor ! !
Or as a friend of mine opines 'caveat sphincter'.

Looks like we're all thinking along the same lines. What's going on? :)

is there really enough of a savings in buying a testa from OS that makes going to all that effort (and risk) worthwhile?

Yes I beleive you need to be an authorised RAWS to import a vehicle which needs compliance work.
An import approval will not be issued to an individual for a car that requires compliance. Pre 88 testa should be ok.
Also car must be original OEM spec. After market wheels , steering wheels and other mods are frowned upon.

Any testa manufactured before 1/1/89 even if an 89 model, can be privately imported and doesn't need raws.

Correct as long as the build date is pre 89 then it can be the 89 model year spec.
