Here is a color cover photo of the 1952 Pan Am Hudson from lovepanamericana. Thank you for sending it to me. Also a few photos of a diecast model of the car. As you can see there are alot of missing decals on the model and its the wrong model Hudson. This is a problem I have been having also as new photos arrive we see things we missed. Pan Am research is a work in progress. I love the race and the cars so it is worth the effort.

Nice Hudson! Would be nice to have some decals to go with the Mobius model that came out late last year. I know they are doing some more 1952 models, but of which version I don't know.

This car is a 1951 Hudson, different version than the Mobius. They should have done the earlier version as I believe the early version also did better in stockcar racing. I think the Franklin Mint 1/24th convertible is the right car but without the roof. There also might be a "Disney" 1/24th diecast of the doctor Hudson with the correct side molding but with a screwed up bumper and wrong roof. It would be a nice looking Hudson model as you said.

A few more Pan Am Porsche 550 photos from 1953(#152 and #154) and 1954(#51). The #154 and #51 are the same care with the roof removed for 1954.

Ferrari 250MM 0352MM as it ran in the 1953 Pan Am as car #5. Should be dark red, not light red like it is currently restored. I found a color clip of the car showing its dark red paint. How much do car restorers get to research cars colors and details?? I think some of the owners deserve a refund. Funny thing is even at Pebble Beach they don't notice the cars are not accurate.

I found a great book at Half Price Books over the weekend:

"La Carrera Panamerica" by Johnny Tipler on Veloce Books.

Originally published (very beautiful photos, paper and layout) at $89.95 it was selling for $14.95 here.

They can search their stores by Title/author so maybe there are other copies out there?

    Good luck!!

I think that book is more about the new Pan am race. Does it have any good pictures of the original race from 1950-1954???

It does largely cover the later races, in photos, but the first part of it is on the early years.
Looking at the pages its about 40% early, 60% later races.

I found a second copy of it, at another store yesterday, if you want a one.

What happened to him?? I was talking to him about this project only last year. That was when he told me he also planned a Pan Am book. I guess I should read his blog.

There was "an issue" with NNO and Darf550, at his weekly Wednesday gatherings...puzzy was involved.....he tightened up the wagon circle a little, to deal with all the flaming arrows ......

    That's where he is.......

That's really to bad. By the way, I watched his new documentary and it is very nice. Some great old color and black and white footage. They plan on making several editions. Some of the video on the sample clip are not on this so I suspect they have alot of unseen film. Great stuff and a must have for historic Pan am fans.

Why would a dispute at the Wed. gatherings translate into him leaving this site? I certainly miss his personality here. I just received the video, and hope to get to it this weekend.

I hope he comes back to ferrarichat as this site is a good resource.

The new documentary also has a color clip of the #34 Ferrari 1951 winner and it does look red and grey to those who were asking a few pages back. I would say it was not silver/red since the black and white photos do not look at all metalic. Also some info on the 250MM #5 1953 in the video. They have a nice still of the car, but it is lightened up. The car is darker red than the other Ferrari's in the 1953 Pan Am race. I will post stills I found of the car to show what I mean when I find them again.
