On a recent beautiful Saturday, I took my 1991 F40 out for a spin and ended up with a flat tire on the front right. Luckily, it was noticed before the tire was flat enough to hurt the rim and I pulled over into a local gas station. My trusty tow person, Death Valley Exxon in Clemson, came to the rescue and with David Scott's help, the car was loaded onto the flat bed and put back safely into the garage. In searching for new tires, I discovered that the Michelin Pilot SX's that are currently on it have been discontinued. These wheels are after-market (18") and are wider than a factory original F40. The nice gentleman at Tire Rack recommended that I use the Michelin Pilot Super Sport as a substitution. The rear tires, of course, are a different size than the front tires. I have had my F40 on the track at Road America (coached by Tim Gallagher) and may track it again sometime in the future. I will also use the car for outings with the Ferrari Club. Can I get some recommendations as to what tires would be best for the F40? This automobile was my late husband's (Coach I) pride and joy and I have the privilege of being its caretaker. Any suggestions provided would be quite helpful. Attached are a couple of photos to help explain things further.

Julie, it will all depend on if you keep these rims on the car or go back to the original units. Having said that, I find the Michelin Pilot Super Sports to be a fantastic tire and have used them on all of my F40s, as well as recommending them to others with satisfaction.

My husband purchased the original units for the F40 to restore back to original, but they did not fit. I still have them. Thank you for your recommendation on the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. It helps tremendously.

I spoke to your husband years ago about this issue and if you have time we can speak privately about the benefits of going one way or another. At least, this is the time to do deal with this.

Its so good to see that the car has you to continue to care for it in this way.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports are great, a step up in traction over the regular PS or PS2. New Ferraris are arriving with them.

Now that I live in SC I'm amazed how many Ferrari's are there. Never expected an F40

The 599 GTO comes out standing with the Pilot SuperSports and they really are fantastic, seem to be quite hard wearing and according to the Ferrari dealer even after a year and half of hard driving including 3 track days they are only about 50% worm.
