Just bought a PS3

no worries... you have quite a while before the PS4.

Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2


First Person Shooters:

Metal Gear Solid
Call of Duty Series (if you are in to multiplayer w/ racist 8 yr olds)


Adventure Games:

Uncharted Series (all of them... although IMO the 2nd one is best)

I've been contemplating getting a PS3, mainly for blu-ray. But I know you can do a ton of other stuff on it other than games.

Can anyone elaborate for me all it's capabilities and whether it makes sense since I don't play games much. Although I'm sure I'd pick up a few here and there.

 

I've got a Logitech Driving Force GT wheel sitting on a shelf if you want one cheap for GT5. GT5 with a wheel is far and away the most realistic driving simulator I've driven short of spending thousands of dollars. Unfortunately it didn't hold my interest and I went back to mainly playing XBOX and ended up selling my PS3.

 

I really don't think PS3 is worth the investment if you are looking for games. There are only a few that are exclusive for the ps3. And even fewer- ones that are good.

 

Here are a few games I have:

Gran Turismo 5
Call of Duty PS3 titles (COD3, MW1, World At War, MW2, Black Ops, MW3)
MLB 2K11 (getting 2K12 soon)
NBA 2K11 (getting 2K12 soon)
GTA4, both 4 and EFLC.

 

Just curious, but are you suggesting that the XBox 360 is a better choice, or that you wouldn't bother with either?

Those are the two big reasons that the PS3 is such a decent value today compared to the XBox 360.

 

I got some new titles for Xmas, but I am still hopelessly addicted to Black Ops multi-player mode. I LOVE killing other people who are sitting on their couches trying to kill me. For some reason, it makes me smile to be the first one to get to 30 kills in a game and come out on top.

That said, I am not a real gamer. When I got the PS3 for x-mas years ago, I wondered what I was going to do with it. I was more excited about the blu-ray feature than gaming.

I do not use Netflix, but a lot of people love the PS3 for this.

I watch a lot of blu-ray on my PS3, still get netflix discs shipped two me. I watch up to 15 movies a month. This is the main reason I bought the PS3 at launch instead of XBOX 360 (I came from the OG XBOX).

The PS3 exclusive games that I've enjoyed are Heavy Rain, God of War 3, the first Resistance, Metal Gear Solid and the Uncharted series. Uncharted 3 was brilliant and the best game I played last year.

I liked Gran Turismo 5 but honestly enjoy arcade type racing like Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. NFS The Run was too short.

Resistance 3 has taken a turn for the worse, R3 was not that engaging.

It really depends on the genre of game you enjoy. I like pretty much everything except RPG. Last year I enjoyed L.A. Noire, Catherine (super hard though), Batham Arkham City (brilliant), Rage (I got motion sickness but excellent FPS), Uncharted 3 (brilliant), MW3 (lots of fun), Battlefield 3 (campaign is too short, finished in one weekend).

This year I enjoyed Saints Row 3 (super fun and irreverant), Singularity (got repetitive towards end), and just started SSX.

 

I have to echo the prior comments.

The Blu-ray capabilities are what sold my wife and I. We are casual gamers, I play more than she does. But having it double as a blu-ray and music player is great.

The Uncharted games are the most fun ones I own. Great mixture of the 3rd person James Bond gameplay and Indiana Jones storyline/characters.

For FPS I enjoy playing Killzone 2 and 3. Good stuff.

Of course Gran Turismo 5 is a kick in the pants.

I like music, so I have Rock Band 3 and downloaded a few songs more to my liking.

 

If you are into Action RPG's - I would recommend playing Demon Souls and then Dark Souls if you like it. Demon Souls is a PS3 exclusive and kicks major butt
