Do you get offended when people ask......

Do you get offended when people say nice car how much was it? How do you answer?

 

Hate it, has nothing to do with the car. The only people that ask know nothing about cars. I say less than you think.

 

I have started just telling people how much a set of factory lug nuts cost. It goes a little something like this;

[them]: "How much did that set you back?"

[trent]: "A set of OEM lug nuts cost $2K, when I park somewhere and return, I only hope nobody has stolen them." That usually ends the conversation.

[random bewildered bystander] "...his lug nuts are worth more than my car..."

 

It never has offended me per se, but it does get tiresome. That's probably the number one question I'm asked, after, "Is it a real one?".

I always reply the same as you, "A lot less than one thinks."

 

I have started telling them 7 years of saving.

I tell them I haven't got a clue as it was a birthday present from my wife.

 

I don't get offended, just very annoying. Hear it at least once a day, I will usually say its a rental to someone who doesn't seem to care about the car.

 

I don't get offended, but the question is somewhat in poor taste. Car prices are a mouse click away...look it up.

 

maybe offened wasn't the right word "annoyed" is better like it. i get it all the time and agree it is in poor taste. I figured I wasn't the only guy with a ferrari that gets asked this question. My wife wanted to put a picture of it on facebook when I first bought it and I said absolutly not. If my customers knew I own a car like this they probably woulnd't give me any more work

I tell people, the price isn't what gets you, it's the maintenance cost. Then I say something like a service cost $$$$ and that's the end of it.

 

"Too much..." and roll my eyeballs. Getting.. very.. tired of the same old questions from so many people.. omg!!!

 

I don't mind people asking me, I just tell them you can get a nice ferrari for well under $100k, but the running costs are higher than most cars...

My answer, "gay porn... it pays much better than straight porn..." that shuts up the stupid questions right away

I sold the 360 and have a CLS63 and GTR now and no one cars about either car.

 

lol, I found out the hard way how much lugnuts cost. My car came with aftermarket wheels and when I tried to put F430 wheels on the 360, the existing bolts were too short and I had to buy a new set. Ferrari wanted about $2k for them. Got a set from Racambi for about $850 IIRC, but wasn't thrilled to dish out even that much on freaking bolts.

Then there are titanium bolts, don't even get me started...

 

I don't really like this question either and have been meaning to think of a good "go to" answer. I've replied with "all of my money," to "not as much as it looks like, it's 11 years old after all," to "I won it at a casino." I almost said "a trillion dollars" once, but figured that might come off wrong and end up with a big key mark. Like I said, I need to figure out a good go to answer that is funny and will make them laugh.

 

I smile, shake it off and don't answer. Fortunately I don't hear it as often around here.

I will never drive a Ferrari to my hometown in SC again. It was constant. I don't think I could own one there. It literally stopped traffic wherever I went. It was way too much attention.

 

Now that "gay porn" answer made laugh!

Standard answers:

1) I have no idea, my wife bought it for me, Christmas last year...

2) I have no idea, my girlfriend got it for me, I sure hope my wife doesn’t find out

3) Lets see.... car, sales tax, insurance, I’ve got less than a quarter million in it (sometimes I use less than a half million)

4) Well... it’s 400 HP and if you figure about $2,500 per HP you’d be in the ballpark (no idea what ballpark)

I will try the “lug nuts cost $2,000” routine

 

I try to keep it simple:

Nice car! =. "thanks"

How much does one of these costs? =. "too much. My wife calls her my Italian mistress. Expensive to acquire and even more expensive to keep"

Most people just want to talk. We've all been very lucky to afford an f-car, so I prefer to keep it all low key
