Otto thank you very much for posting these!

406 is the ultimate Khamsin: 1200kms (like 504 the black car) but 406 is maintained as if it were driven though it is not: a bit maniacal but I admire the owner E.H. for doing so, he kindly sent me a set of shots for the book and of his yellow Bora as well. It is nice that one car should be oreserved like that but don't let it give you the wrong idea they should be driven and exercised sorry for preaching but cars that sit deteriorate.

I should know the name of the color but don't yet but am sending my last set of questions to signor Cozza for the book latewr today so it is in there!

The second Khamsin, 038, has already been discussed here, and more than the steering wheel it is the color of the dash gauge surround which to me is bizarre and would seem to indic ate that the car was originally brown or beige...question added to facory list!

AMLC: thanks for that Chicago shot I found it years ago but only low res.

    best regards,

    Marc

Khamsin 038 was obviously not sold. It is still listed here with 62.650 Km.

    Hi all,

as already posted Peter Wiesner had 038 for sale at the Retro Classics 2012 here in Stuttgart. I was interested in this car but the repaint turned me down a little bit for the asking price of EUR. 85.000.-. The paintwork was not the best although the car made a sound impression to me.

406 now has exactly 1.372km from new... Can someone tell me the correct name for this special colour?

    Regards

    Bjoern

    Hello Björn:

€85k is just too steep for that car, it is a good one but the handful of cars that have changed hands for that price level are at another. I will know its original colors in the next few days: I emailed the factory yesterday with a list of questions for my book one of which is the color of 406 so I will share in the enxt few days when I have it.

    best regards,

    Marc

    Good morning all:

Right the factory's answer is as follows:

    AM120406 color: Beige (Eurolac 106 E52).

I had never come across that color, can't remember another K having it but it is on the list I received years ago:

    http://www.maseratikhamsinregistry.com/specs_1.html

AM12038 was originally: Blue sera, senape interior. Senape is mustard so a different color from what it has now, not a bad car at all from what I know it just needs to come down in price.

    best regards,

    Marc

As with most old cars it needs some issues to be worked out.

I need to pull the oil tank does it come out from the top or bottom? Horn is not working and wipers are now staying on all the time.

    Cheers

    Mark,
It's been a while but if I remember correctly it comes out the bottom. Do it on a lift, it would be good to have a second person to help move it from the top while you are underneath guiding it.

    Mark,

In my study of the wiring diagram, it seems to me that the wiper motor is wired "hot" and you make ground (earth) to turn it on. I've not sorted mine out yet so I can't say for sure. But if it is so, then any short to ground (in the circuit) would turn the wipers on. I wonder if anyone else sees it this way and what do you do about it?

Has anyone had the gas hatch units rebuilt?

R/H drive cars definately come out the top as they are supported by the chassis.
the main obstruction is the cabin air intake

Just like Mark I have also finally taken delivery of my Khamsin, chassis 435, RHD, delivered new to Johannesburg, South Africa. It's back in that country now (she stayed in Zimbabwe for 21 years, with 2 collectors) and on a truck headed for Cape Town as I write.

Last week Monday we picked her up from the far north of SA, and brought her toa friend's house in Johannesburg, on a trailer.

She runs well, drives too, but the regulator is clicking away, with one sphere leaking and presumably the diaphragms in both collapsed. Not a biggie, but too dangerous to drive her.

Exhaust is still the factory original, and everything after the front pipes has been patched and re-patched, a work of art really, but I need to replace it.

She's absolutely as straight as a pin, with the only rust I found being the rear inner wheel wells, where there is a hole with a water-drain hose through it. The rust is minimal, the hole just a little bigger than it used to be. That's it as far as the tin-worm is concerned, which makes me very happy.

She's got 63.000 kms on her, and everything except the drivers side doorhandle feels as taut as one may expect. Other than the leaking sphere she's bone dry, ibxluding engine, gearbox and diff.

I also need the gas-struts for the hatch done: there's a company here in Cape Town that re-pressurises them. I had the same done years ago with the struts of my 308, and it lasted. Was cheap too, something like 20 Dollars for both or so.

I've started getting the leather soft again. I don't think it's ever been treated, and especially the bottoms of the seats have suffered. Driver's seat needs one new panel (leather torn at the seam), the rest is good and softening up. A mouse attacked the dashtop, which will need to be recovered: any source for the original brown material?

Rest of the interior is great.

It's wearing the wrong size tyres, not of immediate concern, but will need to do something about them.

She'll be delivered to my house tomorrow afternoon or thursday morning, then I'll dig in. Hope I can still post some pics, need to pay my subscription here, otherwise I'll do so later.

    With itching hands,

    Jack.

Ooops, need to reduce the filesize of the pics first....

Congrats Jack, it took a few years but you are finally rewarded.

    It looks very good:)

Yes any information in Europe, the US and elsewhere on recharging/refilling struts is good, when I showed my (ex9 car to Adolof Orsi in Fort Lauderdale in 2005 I opened the trunk and when he saw it stayed up on original struts said "Ees a miracle!"

By the way there is a very good explanation of LHM spheres by Jerry hathaway in this Jay Leno video of his SM.

    Hi.
Marc requested that I posted this one, so here we go:

Spring came very early to Norway this year and the The norwegian sportscar association, where I am a member, got a request from a newspaper regarding a +30 year old italian sportscar.

So after 6 hours of driving, intervjue and a photoshoot on saturday, this is the web result.

This is the original article in Norwegian:
    http://www.oblad.no/trafikk-og-motor/rask-pa-arbeidsreiser-1.7167230

And here is Google trying to translate it to english:
    http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=no&sl=no&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.oblad.no%2Ftrafikk-og-motor%2Frask-pa-arbeidsreiser-1.7167230

If you click on the picture, there are 24 more to go.....

The cool bit is that Marius and I got some ideas for more photos.
Using the forklift at work to get above the Khamsin can get some interresting angles.

    Happy easter!

    Regards
