I know most exotics are weekend cars, and I know alot of you won't drive them to work. So my daily is at the shop for a few days (BMW knows NOTHING about building turbocharged engines) so I'm taking my Porsche Turbo to work for a few days.

Its no big deal, but I know if/when I go to an exotic, they are less practical and wonder how you guys deal with these situations? In my case, the daily is out of warranty and I don't really like renting.

So should an exotic be a 3rd car? If so, I'm going to have to let the wife know I need to buy two cars.....gulp.

If it's that big of an inconvenience couldn't you just pick up a used Honda or Toyota for a couple grand to get you around?

If you live in an area that gets snow in the winter, then 3 cars makes a lot of sense:
    - daily driver for going to work (typically a comfortable sedan)
    - AWD vehicle for winter (could be SUV, pick-up truck, or car), and
    - exotic sports car.

I had a max of 4 I think at once.. but now just

    Ferrari 360
    Aston Martin DB9

I work from home most days now (for now) so I only use the cars for meetings errands or just fun.. in philadelphia right now it only snows a few days a year it seems to AWD isn't that much of a necessity, the aston as seat heaters :)

I would easily say that 99% of people with exotics have another car as their daily driver, but having two daily drivers? not sure why you would want 2 lol

At one point we had a G35 Infiniti, Mercedes SL convertible, Cadillac Escalade, two Porsches, and my Audi A8L. It was too much. Between insurance, gas, remembering when the cars needed to be registered, etc. Now we have the 430, the same escalade, a G37, and my DD, a 750Li. Much easier to manage. I'm looking to pick up an 87-89 Carrera to play with during the summer.

I don't think exotics can't be used everyday, but I think the specialness would wear off. How could it not? It's like wearing a very nice watch all the time. Eventually it just becomes a watch.

I have one daily driver and two weekend/funcars. I live at a ski resort so I have to have 4wd and prefer a truck because of the ground clearance but if I lived in a warmer climate I would be daily driving something fun not a truck.
I decided to commute with one of my fun cars this week and I really don't enjoy it I prefer having the truck I'm just too worried about something happening to one of my cars.

I drive my 430 to work about once a week if the weather's nice, and my Dodge the rest of the time. If the Dodge had to go to a shop for a few days, it wouldn't kill me to be stuck in a Ferrari every day during that time. Certainly wouldn't want to buy, insure, maintain and clean a 3rd car just in case of that eventuality. I'd rather sell the Dodge if/when it becomes unreliable and get a new DD.

So I guess I'd suggest getting a bulletproof DD.

I currently drive 5 of my cars to work every day, one for each weekday and consider all of them exotics, so there you go. :)

    Monday: Audi R8
    Tuesday: Aston Martin Vantage N400
Wednesday: Bentley GT Continental (also my long range driver)
Thursday: BMW S54 M Roadster (exotic on the count that only 1,500 were ever made)
    Friday: Ferrari Friday of course

Currently down to just (3) {2 exotics and a daily driver} ---- which is the lowest amount I've had in quite a long time. I'm getting ready to make a big geographic move soon and have recently gotten "married" (for lack of a better term), so I am in the process of simplifying things and getting rid of some things in order to make the move more manageable :). If I can sell it before the move deadline, one of the two exotics will be going away as well --- putting me down to only (2) cars, for the first time in my life since I was 24-years old !

I have a "spare" garage bay - had planned 2 years ago to populate it
with a DeLorean or Elise or something else fun - but have held onto the
cash since the economy tanked - hoping to fill that slot one day not
    too far in the future.

Who needs a car? I can walk anywhere in town, except to Costco, and I can just hitch hike there.

I have a 430 spider for the weekends, etc. My wife drives a Lexus SUV and my daily is a 20 yr old BMW 525i given to me by my father in law. They bought it new.

My next car will be a 997 turbo coupe which will be my daily. The 430 will stay. The auto graveyard beckons for the BMW.

I have one car, a boxster. I don't feel the need for a third if I get a Ferrari. Of course my parents have five cars, my fiancé has three, and my brother an suv and a motorcycle, so it's not too much trouble to get a loaner. :)

I don't believe in the "drive a crapbox during the week to save your nice car", so I bought a nice car to use every day (MB s-class with AWD) and the 993TT for weekends.

I park at the train station about a mile from my house, so theoretically a vespa would do, but both of my cars have been so reliable that I've not had any issues.

the 993 is not an exotic in any sense, so if I need to use it for something, I do.

I think 2 cars easily covers it, so long as one is not like a resto project or really ancient.
