    Quite a unique collection.

He obviously loves the heritage of race cars versus just expensive cars! :)

    Awesome! :)

You would never think he was a drummer in a rock band would you?? He looks like a "propper English Gentlemen"..lol

Wow I never knew he had such a large collection, simply fantastic. I think I would almost enjoy the Goodwood event more than a F1 race as I could get up close to all the racing cars I love and meet their owners. Naturally I would bring a host of photo's for autographs.

    Maybe next year!

Amazing what one can achieve by riding the coat-tails of David Gilmore and Roger Waters. An average drummer makes good.

    School is now in session:
A bit harsh and unfounded don't you think since Nick was a founding member and David was brought into the group later due to Syd's deteriorating mental health and odd stage antics ie sitting and staring off into space. I bet you did not know that the band sent Syd royalty checks every month up until his death?

    Now back on topic, PLEASE!!!

Considering Gilmour & Waters got plenty of songwriting royalties that Mr. Mason did not, I wouldn't "dis" him too much, considering what he's done car-wise with his wherewithal, at least.

I love that one of the drivers set his helmet bag on the hood of the GTO.

From what I understand, Nick Mason did not ride on the coat tails of anyone. Especially in the purchase of the magnificent car collection he now has. He paid attention to advice in the 70's from in particular A Bamford, who saw ahead of most of us at the time, that the prices of collector cars would increase markedly in the coming years. And they did, especially from 1988 onwards. There is a thread on FChat, what these cars used to be worth in those days and most people could have bought and held onto them.

Further proof that, no matter how big your garage or hangar is, you will continue to buy cars until you have it stuffed to the gills. :)

If he built another hangar and spread out the cars within it, he'd just end up buying more cars!

I would love to see an episode of "Renaissance Man" and watch Alain De Cadenet thoroughly flog all of Nicks stable.

This leads me to ask, because I miss it alot, why do we not see more of the art of "engine turning"?

Very true! His father I think was also an extreme car/race guy. I seem to remember hearing that Nick had an Astin Martin at around 17 or so.

My dad saw Pink Floyd when they toured Darkside around '74 in Tuscon when he was at U of A. Claims it as the second best show he's ever seen. First was Springsteen '75 at Grady Gammage, same week he was on the cover of Time and Newsweek.

Add to that, Nick did not put his money up his nose. Hence, all the nice toys.

Regardless of his "financial/investment/automobile acumen", he's still a completely average drummer who, again, if not for the profound writing/musical abilities of Waters and Gilmour, would have a nice little VW collection right now.

Mason bought the GTO in the early 80's for 17,000 Pounds as referenced in a Goodwood video. Who needs royalties when you make investments like that.

Neither of your two post have anything to do with the subject matter at hand so why even bother posting  ? You sound like a disgruntled/jealous drummer to me.

Suggestion, start your own HATE thread and let us enjoy his collection in this one.;)
