Early Mondial numbers. This may be the oldest.

Hello Ferrari folks. I see there has been some talk about Mondial vin numbers. Is the oldest number so far on that long list that was posted here? If so, I think my car may have the oldest vin number. 34823. I have owned this car for a while. I think I remember the owner before me saying the car was built during the spring of 1980. There is no date on the door post and this is a euro car. It was imported here around 84/85 and last inspection sticker on the window is 91. It has a few things I have never seen on a Mondial before. One item the car does not have is the rear center armrest storage bag between the rear seats. Is anyone else missing the storage bag? Also, an 8 Track Stereo came with this car. It's a solid roof as well. Every Mondial, euro or US model that I have seen all had sunroofs. The car only has 14000 original miles. It still has the original TRX tires including the spare. The last time I started this car was during the summer of 07 when I drove it to a car show about 20 miles round trip. The car ran excellent. No problems. Just today, I put in a battery. The car started right up after 5 years with no problem. Is this the oldest Mondial around?

 

Yes it has a B in the vin in the 8th position. There never was a pouch between the rear seats. No date plate on the driver door jam cover. No holes. I do not think there ever was a plate there. As I said, I just started it for the first time in 5 years. It ran fine however, when I pressed the clutch pedal it stayed to the floor and I can not bring it all the way back up again, it just falls back down. I wonder what happened. I was thinking about selling the car. It needs an owner who will fix it and use it. Now, with this being such an early car, maybe the oldest Mondial around, I'm having second thoughts.

 

Here are a few photos. These were taken the last time I drove the car over to a car show in a park. Around May 2007. I drove it home that day and parked it where it still is today. The bumpers look small next to other Mondials. Euro bumpers I would guess.

Is 31075 the very first Mondial built or is it the oldest Mondial known to exist today? If it does not exist today, what number is the oldest model to exist today that we know of? Could it be my car? From that long list, it looks like it might be. The reason the car sat for so long is because I can't get it out without moving alot of items anymore so I just forgot about the car. I once put an early low mile euro 78 928 in the corner of my shed, then I put up another garage which closed off the first one so the doorway is now a wall. The car can never come out again. It would be a major project to get that Porsche out, so that's it for the 928. It was walled in about 20 years ago.

If anyone is interested, I would consider offering the car to a good home. I would need a few weeks to get the car out. Again, it's a very early number euro car and the 14000 miles are original. It needs work from sitting for most of it's life. The TRX tires are the original tires. The first offer for $12500 takes the Mondial home. Is that a fair price? I think it is. Thank you.

 

No, I think you are missing the point and it seems that maybe you have not kept up on prices. I said the original TRX tires are still on the car. Is that a bad thing? We all know the car would need tires to drive far, it's just the fact in itself that a 30 year old Ferrari still has the original tires plus, they are not even worn out. I think the original tires add to the car. As far as you saying the engine needs a complete overhaul, what makes you think that? You can not even hear the thing run. The car runs so quiet and smooth. Never any smoke. This Ferrari was never run hard. It had an easy life. It sat for long periods of time however, if stored right, that is not always a bad thing. Sitting did not ruin this car. $12500 is more than fair for a Ferrari with 14000 original miles. I also never said that was a firm price. This is a very early car with unique things that other Mondials do not have. I would like to find someone who would just love to have this car and use it. Maybe a young man, low on funds but really would love to have his first Ferrari. I mean, come on now, what is the car worth, $1000? You can not buy a perfect Mondial for only $12000 and never will. The prices already hit the bottom some time ago. At some point and not too far off, the Mondials will climb in collector car value. They are already starting too.

 

Oh I am sorry about posting a price on the car. I am so back and forth on keeping or selling this car. I do not post here often so I did not remember some of the rules. I have owned the car for years and it just sits all the time. I am not a dealer. I just felt that maybe someone here might like to give the Ferrari a good home while at the same time, I can learn more about the car. I hope the post can stay. I am really interested in finding out more information about the early vin number. Thank you.
