Wow Mark! Didn't know you were on here. What a gorgeous Pantera. You cornering the DeTomaso market?

Great color on that car too, and just enough mods to love it and live with it... quite happily!

If I can ever get my braking system put back together that may just happen. Still waiting on parts from one of the vendors.

I have my new brake master and booster, they are a little bigger than the stock one. So when we removed the clutch master I noticed it was broken. So right now I have a new clutch master on order from Precision Proformance. I also ordered new trunk felt as mine is looking sad.

The slowdown on getting the parts seems to be because I also asked him about new seatbelts for my car. Being a 71 he is having something fabricated up... I guess I should have made it two separate orders... :)

Hopefully I should be back on the road soon. And hopefully I have just as much whoa as I have go... ;)

I spotted this as I was turning to head in the same direction and I guessed right as to where it was headed, a nearby light industrial area with a couple body shops.

The driver of the flat bed, which says "Car Crushers" on side, told me he bought it as scrap and it was going to be crushed!

I'm sure he saw the shock on my face and I told him there was more value there in parts and I asked what they had in it. He said something to the effect, "no, I'm just joking I'll probably part it out. You wanna buy it for $3000?"

More shock on my face and random mumbling as I tried to piece the deal together in my head.

Finally, the driver put me out of my misery with to the effect, "Oh man, just kidding the car is his and he plans to get it back together."

There was a second guy I hadn't seen on the other side and he was probably laughing at me the whole time.

It was one of those moments where you are both happy and sad at the same time. Happy to hear the car would live but sad to miss out on a Pantera for $3K!

Oh well, hopefully it will stay in the area until I can scrape together another $2999. :D

Is she all stock under there? Gotta put those 15" stock wheels back on! Did that early vintage come with different number of 'slots' on the Campy's?

Looks amazing Joey, get on it! :)

    Joey,

How original is your car? Besides the wheels, what else has been changed? If you do decide to get motivated, my recommendation would be to keep/return to stock as much as possible. In my opinion that is where any future value lies — especially with a pushbutton.

    I'd love to see more.

  11. It's pretty much stock. It's an early car (earlycat!), 1303. The gas tank is aluminum, wrapped in Ford's recall fiberglass. I put a Nardi 60 Anni steering wheel (same as a 250 GTO). When I got it, a little over 10 years ago, it had been sitting apart in a sea going storage container in Westly Ca. The paint is shot, it's blistered from the heat, but zero rust. I'm the second owner. The original owner bought it from Ford in 1972. It was in a Ford storage lot/building in Mi. This car was a demo car that traveled across US to promote the Pantera, along with several other cars on a tractor trailer. He got a pretty good deal at the time, $6800. That tidbit of info came after the check cleared, lol. He owned a exotic car repair shop (and was a racing school instructor named Butch G), and decided to add more power, so he took it apart. Then it sat.

I had RBT safety wire the transaxle, and rebuild & reseal it. The engine is mild for many Panteras. KB pistons, H beam rods, 650 BG car & alum intake. Bigger cam, roller rockers, SS valves, aluminum flywheel. Everything was balanced, the oil pump is safety wired with teflon coated gears. The valve spring height was measured & adjusted. Cam degreed. Still strong for a mild engine, it will run out a 0-60 in about 4 seconds in first gear. It will rev to the moon.

The cosmetics is what needs to happen now. It's got one problem which I have not fixed yet. It's probably from lack of use. The brakes start to tighten up after a little driving. If you loosen the master cylinder up & then retighten it, the brakes go back to normal. I probably need to drive it & maybe the power booster spring would loosen up. I don't know if a vacuum canister would help, if anyone has an idea.

    Lashss,

Saw you at Katie's a couple of weeks ago but didn't get a chance to say hello.. I did get to check out the car a bit and love it!

Sadly it brings back memories of my old GT5, an 85 which I never should have sold! I'm gonna hve to dig around to find some pics and see if I can find the s/n.. I'd like to know where she is!

If you were around during the days of the old Baltimore Concours and visited, then you saw it there each year.

    Anyway, enjoy the brute..

Thanks I did get the invitation. We're so busy here that I couldn't get away for a trip that long this close to the Canadian GP.

I'm sure it will be a blast!

    lashss,

So far this is the only thing I could dig-up. I pulled this off the wall in the basement to snap a photo. Its a Pic of an award I received when showing the car many moons ago.

I'm trying to find a couple of photos of the car at Summit Point, and at the now defunct Baltimore Concours d'Elegance. Trying to find also what S/N I had..

I wish I had never sold it! Although it did stay in the area for roughly 10yrs or so.

I attempted to buy it back twice.. couldn't agree on price the first time. About three years later I decide to pony-up and made the call only to find that a deal for the car had been made roughly 4 days prior!! So I ended-up buying the 308 instead.

I believe the car went to NY, possibly to a broker/dealer.

Did it have low mileage on it?

I remember seeing one like this (but with the factory wheels) for sale at a NY dealer last fall.
