Jacques To Drive Father's Ferrari At Fiorano

Well that is pretty cool, a bit erie but very neat opportunity for jacques.

 

It would be great to see the video, and also see the lap times compared to his dad, assuming he drives all out.

 

Isn't it strange that although Jacques is a WDC, we generally consider Gilles to be the superior driver? I have respect to both though, and Gilles might be my favorite driver of all time (or tied with Senna).

RIP Gilles.

 

Seems a bit morbid to me to be celebrating his death by having his son drive his car.

 

Because Jacques had a great car. Overall, he got a lucky career, and his career went downhill eversince he left Williams.

 

Jacques was a very good driver, and won the WDC in a great car. Gilles was an otherworldly driver, at a different level to everyone else on the grid. He could do things with an F1 car the other drivers could only dream about - and the other drivers stated as much, for example at Long Beach in a drenched practice session where GV was lapping 9 or 10 seconds faster than the next fastest car, and all the other drivers simply could not fathom how he was so quick.

He wasn't a WDC for two reasons - respect for team orders, letting Scheckter win the title in 1979 even though he could have beat him quite handily, and then having absolutely terrible cars in 80 and 81.

 

+1 and the race where he was 13 seconds a lap faster was practice at Watkins Glen in 1979.

 

Very possible way of how Jacques continues to mourn the loss of his father, at the same time finding comfort and showing respect to his dad. No other real agenda for him to do this.

 

I think it´s a pretty hommage to the best and most iconic driver Ferrari (and f.1) ever had.
I hope Jody can be there as well, since he was one of Gilles best friends....well, if i think about it, they could also bring Prost, arnoux and tambay, they all were Gilles friends and Ferrari drivers...althoug something could go wrong between prost and Arnoux!!!

 

I saw the car in Modena at Sport Auto Modena where it was being serviced by it's original mechanics. Pretty cool.

Djon '79 definitely got me "hooked" on motorsport, and a shame GV never became WDC

Actually it was 11 seconds, his team-mate Jody Scheckter, who was second fastest, recalled that "I scared myself rigid that day. I thought I had to be quickest. Then I saw Gilles's time and - I still don't really understand how it was possible. Eleven seconds!" Jacques Laffite merely laughed and quipped "Why do we bother? Gilles is different from the rest of us. He is on a separate level."

On the other hand, Gilles said his engine was misfiring, if not for that, he would have been even quicker!! but that he could also have crashed he car

 

It would have still gone in the crapper had he stayed with Williams.

 

I wonder if Brenda Vernor will also get an invite to Fiorano when Jacques drives the Ferrari?

I am sure it will be an emotional day at Fiorano, Gilles wasnt statistically the best F1 driver but whenever I watch vidoes of his driving, my but he drove with so much determination and heart, he seemed to love the art of driving, that it was spectacular to watch made it all the better.

A true legend.
