actually from what i heard....the G1M plates are the only ones allowed to be reg both in Langkawi and the rest of Malaysia.......If not its only "KV" for Langkawi......this has nothing to do with tax exemptions or not.......so if a G1M plate is registered in Semenanjung, it is not tax exempted but if it is reg in Lang, the usual Langkawi privileges and restrictions apply...

    Wow...

I'm really surprised. Never knew about the Veyrons and the Koenigsegg. I know about the Zonda...but wow.

I hope to run into some of them soon :)

Yes, you can register G1M plate all over Malaysia but I'm definitely interested in tax-free supercars so give me any plates! :p

I've also heard that there's some owners who don't register/pay tax on their cars & drive with borrowed no. plates+rd tax discs

actually I'm not sure of those who do that, but we will never know unless one has to check with the JPJ's database on a particular car

but one thing i'm very sure some do is that they drive on Trade Plates..these plates just don't hang arnd like they normally do (since its not that temporarily!) but are screwed in the place of proper plates...most of these guys own a few super cars and they hv a good AP King as a friend who "lends permanently" for a fee or for as part of the deal for them being good customers one or two plates which is registered under the AP King's Ali Baba company......

i'v realised that the topic on workshops have not been talked much about here....i'v been to Ultratune and Naza Italia and so far have not come out feeling too satisfactorily.....for one, when i wanted a leakdown to be done, they turn back to me and ask what a leakdown is? so there goes the credibility......most are fitters and not fixers and the place are all run but 18-21year old somethings....... with fitters, they are really fitting stuff instead of finding a solution for a problem....i'm sure many can recall sending your cars in a few times to naza cause they don't know what the real problem is, but they do "a", then it doesnt work...then "b"....ok not working...lets move to "C' etc etc.....but we gota end up paying for a, b, c and for their remaining experiments......
any other reliable F-mechanics around or could be recommended ? I'v been given another place in Sunway called Garang Motors...any idea about this place?

There's a lot of 'hidden' tuners and Ferrari workshops in Sunway area. Situated nearby Monash and Sunway University, it's dominated by lots of Japanese car and Japanese tuners.

However, go in between the main roads, and there's a bunch of Ferrari hanging about here and there. I'm not too sure about the Garang shop, but i'm just saying there'a a few in Sunway.

Also, thanks for the heads up about Naza. Perhaps, you should take the matter to the top management, because, personally, i think this is a pretty serious issue. This is after all, a Ferrari. Not a Perodua or Proton.

well to be a little fair to them, this sort of behaviour is evident in almost most main dealerships/service centres.....as the name suggests, they are more of a service centre rather than a workshop, hence the attitude they take....change everything instead of lets try to repair and make them work......just go to ure local bmw, merc, or even toyota/honda guys....not all...but definitely most.....but the joke is no one firstly knows a simple thing as a leak down test.....the one or two who knows (or pretends to know) wld say sorry bro, a compression alone would be good enough.....
but to be a little fair to the naza italia guys, the former next car guys who have gone there (i heard the other half went to bentley) are ok and pretty knowledgeable because some have about ten odd years with F-cars/M-cars (the workshop manager there is a pretty knowledgeable guy)
......but at the end of the day, mechanics are different from fitters.......
the management? are you kidding me? have u tried e-mailing them about anything?
well its neither perodua nor proton, but its after all a former AP import outfit thanks to one Rafidah Aziz......the roots are what matters.....

    bikz, I share your pain.

My Diablo was left with the agent for 7 months while they shifted, worked on other cars this & that. I ordered my parts from US, UPS to Singapore then KL & taxed two times! (Still cheaper than "factory" prices)

I finally received a rude 5 digit bill, changed many new parts which never solved the problem.

Well, even the Sgp agent didn't either & all it took was one man with a scanner hooked up to the car & we went out for 200m then found the fault! Dirty fuel tank & filters

The other workshop that I always use is Exquisite Marques, Melvin & Joe takes care of my concerns even in wee hours of Sundays! They couldn't help on the Diablo as they don't have the diagnostic system+workshop manual for it. They should be able to assist you with the leak-down test.

Other than specialists with racing experience, most of the workshops anywhere will be happier to replace parts than repairing or finding "ghost" faults. So we need to find the guys with the patience+experience.

Never tried Naza on my F car so can't comment. I wanted them to assist me with the shipping of the car to Italy last year for Mille Miglia & other than a helpful salesman, the rest of the department were always on leave or can't be bothered. Too bad, I could've flew the Malaysian flag for them watched by a million & my co-driver's a Melakan!

I'v contacted them on your advice and lets see how they are...do you send your F-car to them? (besides the Diablo)...and I would like to extend my apologies on behalf of all Malaysians for having such laid back idiots who do not care about anything much more than their paychecks at the end of the month...

Apologies? Not necessary mate. Luckily, there's always an angel round the corner

The counter gal @ EM introduced me to a very helpful & hardworking Indian shipping agent after I got screwed by a Singapore agent! Now that's another story

Anyway, I just came back from their workshop in Kota Damansara. Dropped off my Ferrari with them & they do my modern Porsches like 996, 997 as well. They also have the diagnostic system for modern Bentley so should be able to service up to F430.

I'll try to recall the details & put it down here so everyone knows what to do in future.

    1) You'd need to write in with supporting document to get an approval letter from bank, if it's on loan. 3 days to 1 week to process as they need the branch manager of HP to approve.
    i) They'll release your original log card, required for export & it will be kept by JPJ customs department. No original log card? NO GO.

    2) Apply for a "Passage du Carnet" from MAA in Shah Alam. This is very important, a set of yellow papers bearing all the details of your car so that it will clear customs without paying duties. It has to be stamped upon arrival & departure by the customs of those countries that you visit. This is the only form to use as it will allow you to drive in those countries of application. DO NOT apply for the other type of "export carnet" for exhibition purposes which means your car cannot be driven overseas. (applicable from customs department in Mont Kiara)

    i) Requires a bank draft with equivalent value of your car benefitted to MAA as a FD which takes 5-14days to process. They'll refund you when you revalidate the car in Malaysia.
ii) Get an international driving license.
iii) Get insurance for your car in countries where car will be driven & valid road tax.

    2) Send the car to Puspakom for inspection with supporting documents where they'll scrutinise your chassis & engine no. If you have tinting, which I did. You'll have to remove them or they won't pass you even if you try to bride, it doesn't work here. Half a day. In my case, 3/4 of the people in the office decides to have a durian break in office hour while we watched

    3) With all the documents done, go to JPJ in Setapak. Get Q-no & wait for hours..... bearing in mind that they have lunch & tea break! They'll need all supporting documents, carnet, puspakom inspection cert, original logcard, letters from bank, organiser & yourself. They'll then issue you with a "de-registration" letter for customs/port office so that your car can be exported.

    4) Make a few sets of the docs, hand two sets to your shipping agent & bring along one set with you. Your agent needs to book a ship & look for the nearest port of call while you're doing the above.

    5) Drive the car to Port Klang. There's 2 or 3 ports, west, north etc. & I had the opportunity to enter the duty free area where you see interesting things then reverse the car into a 20' container myself which requires me to crawl out of the window since the door cannot be opened. So, make sure you're young enough for this :D

All the above can be done by runner/workshop etc over few weeks provided the person in charge is not on leave or MC which people here always do! I was played out last minute & did everything myself within 5 days.

Had to give a lot of angbaos & favours to make things work in short notis not to mention enduring the wait & driving+meeting timeframe. What made me mad was, I gave 3-4 months advance notice & everybody didn't know what to do or said they'll take it from there when they don't! If the car don't arrive on time, I'll miss the event.

So here you are. Hope I didn't miss anything. Things to take note are the original logcard, carnet & extra money forked out to buy the bank draft.

Hi guys, I did have a thread on it but got lazy on updating the pics :p

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=304932

I'll try my luck entering next year's MM & most likely with another car. I'm hunting for the eligible & affordable pre-57 classic car but that's not easy as there's over 3000 applicants with only 375 accepted per year. A cheaper way to enjoy is to rent a car & follow the route but you'll be barred from entering the sanctioned areas. Still, a great way to soak up the atmosphere with all the crowd lined up in the streets & those amazing roads!

    You guys should do it.

Oh yes, this unit was ex-Raja Nazrin. Can you believe that the plastic protection over the carpet is intact! Actually, by sure luck & I happened to see the original no plate on another car last week :D

Which Ferrari do you have & your needs? I think their Singapore workshop does have the latest system for up to 458 & at least 3-4 other workshops have it as well. Their current workshop manager there, Ben was the ex-Ferrari workshop manager for over a dozen years & can do up to F430s.

The equipment alone costs about RM100K excluding training so not many local outfits will want to have it bar the agent.

well we're not talking 458s here....Motronic 2.5 we're talking about on a 348! so i'm quite surprised that EM does not have it.....have you got diagnostics done there on your 426 which if i'm not mistaken uses a M 2.7?

i think that plate has found its latest home on the Vellfire! I believe it was on either a Merc or an Estima before this( i could be wrong though)...lucky find!

Oh I had the 348 before. What kind of work do you need to be done? They're usually quite reliable with faults down to your MAF & oxygen sensors but it's a b*tch to balance both banks & don't really need the scanner, at least for mine last time. The gearbox linkage is also very sensitive which needs an experience hand & the reason people compliant of poor gearbox but it's really down to the adjustment where it uses cables that will have some free-play after a while!

In fact, I still have some parts left for the 348 including a Powerchip ECU :) Interested? Hehee

I don't think they've ever needed to touch my ECU although chk engine light comes on once in a blue moon. They've done the belt job & many other components from waterpumps, seals, adjusting of valve clearance, air-con compressor, clutch, gearbox, radiator, body seals, paint & exhaust. Almost everything except an engine+gearbox rebuild. In fact, my car's now with them for a steering rack rebuild.

Thanks, you guys should do whatever you can & try to enter with your modern Ferrari which doesn't guarantee entry but it's the easiest ticket till they cancel the "Tribute" as there has been accidents. It is very very tough to enter MM with a classic car as it's always reserved for the blue-bloods. I was just in Ipoh over the weekend for supper :) & the 456 has gone back few times since. Will buzz you next time :)

Well you have given me confidence in MM to be honest....they're charging RM4500 for the majors and clutch replacement.....ok kah?slightly cheaper than NI
