I have a 88' Testarossa that idles high at start up. It will go up to about 2000-4000 rpm. Any suggestions.

John I posted up the same fault with mine a few weeks back. It turned out to be an air leak in the joint between the plenum and Injection system, its a rubber sealing ring about 3 inches in diameter.

The Testarossa idle speed is affected by any inlet air leak and my way of resolving the problem was to remove anything that has a pipe or hose connected to it and check it out for working and if it had any leaks. You can reach and check everything once the plenums are off. I had a single leak (I think) but the job of checking caused me to re-seal anything that could have caused a problem. It may be me but I think it is running slightly smoother now.

    Good luck hunting.

Oh yeah before I forget, there is also another recent thread which highlights a problem of the throttle pedal sticking on the footwell carpet. I would check this out first as it is so simple to do and you can follow it up by checking the throttle butterflies return under there own control.

The two large silver coloured air boxes that sit on top of the engine and feed air into the inlets.

you need to take the plenum of each side and check each of the rubber items connected to anything you find underneath.
The first photo shows the plenum towards the top of the photo and the rubber large gasket in the middle of the photo that joins the plenum to the fuel injection system by TWO LARGE jubilee clips.
Second photo shows some of the pipes that need checking.
Third photo shows the LHS plenum off and how the plenum is fixed to the injection system via the large rubber gasket.
