lol, i know, it WAS a bit of an incendiary comment! they made 450, i think...50 to race, and 400 to sell..
Well, admittedly, it is a very special car. One that is not likely to be replicated by the modern variations of cars. It has tons of swagger when one pulls up to a Cars & Coffee gathering. Enjoy it in good health! .
Gorgeous car, I've been smitten by the M1 since the first time I saw one in person at Braman BMW in Miami in 1981 or 1982. Enjoy it!!
Phil, I think you have truelly set yourself apart from the "crowd" by purchasing what is in my opinion one of the icons of automotive history. I salute you sir! MORE PICS!!!!! ps, Whats funny is the looks on some peoples faces in you pic, they would not recognize/know the car if it was not for the badge.
You spelled "best car in the world" incorrectly. It's supposed to go "The Ultimate Driving Machine"... An underrated, almost forgotten, car for sure. One might say "the thinking man's classic supercar"...
i've been driving it around manhattan (where i live) and no one thinks it's a bmw-most people either think it's a ferrari, that i've rebadged, (which is REALLY odd...wouldn't you go the other way?) or that it's a kit car.. it really is amazing-it's true-it really was the nsx before the nsx-so docile around town, but when you open the car up..it's fantastic...
Best car BMW sofar has made. Friend of mine made a story to local car mag and he had some slight problems to fit in it, being something like 6'3" or so.
Top Gear agrees that it was the first truly user-friendly mid-engined supercar; http://www.videopediaworld.com/video/52282/BMW-M1-Top-Gear-HQ I remember marveling at the first one I ever saw (at a Historic race weekend). Brian
