I see a lot of pretty stickers but the engine bay doesn't look very prototype. Maybe I just don't understand what they mean by prototype.

This was the Luca Sartori's car during the Italian GT championship period. I think it was repaint recently with the old livery, the car was red for a long time. During its race period was paint in 4 livery: red ('92), red/white('93), blue/white('93), Totip livery ('94). Happy to see it again. :)

Note that it was built as a prototype, then fitted later with catalytic engine modifying the compartment for it (look at the bent beam to accommodate the wastegate valve). The Italian Championship provided only vehicles fitted with catalyzed engines behind the regulation. Indeed the Michelotto's GT engine spec was quoted as 520-550 hp for the catalytic engine, but during the qualifying 590 hp were possible thanks to the higher boost level permitted. The regulation was the N-GT, so the engine was to be mantained stock even if a light blueprint process was permitted, only turbocharged could be replaced with stronger units and fitted with open exhaust. ECUs were similar as stock units but working with the valve higher boost pressure was permitted to obtain the best lap time possible during the qualifying sessions. In 1993 the F40s had as opponents the Jaguar XJ220C, no Jag was able to start in pole position during the championship qualifying sessions and only one race was won by the Jag.

Some of these N-GT cars later were rebuilt as road car, with street alignment and also street tires.

Look at here the track wheels alignment of the same car at that period, lower center of gravity and more extreme negative camber:

Here the same car in 1992: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3301/3299987914_75ca7587a8.jpg

Thanks for this too. RM could have served themselves better in their description which makes it seem as if they hadn't done their homework.

Here is a better summary of this car's early life, short & sweet:

Ferrari F40 #74047 was the sixth of eight F40 prototypes used by the factory for testing, and was handed over to Michelotto between May and July 1987, prior to public displays, for 'extensive GT modification'.

So someone could but this, paint it red again, and terrorize everyone on the road :)

    Jim?

Or leave in '94 livery (thanks for the info, F40 LeMans!) and stick a plate on it ...?

My problem is time. Today I drove my MK-IV, my Duesenberg, my Fiat Dino, worked on Dino Competizione, rode my horse, and am soon heading out for dinner.

I'm not sure that I have the time for another car especially with our racing program at the Nurburgring.

In the end time is the only commodity...

I know very well that car. My father raced his 85690 in the same racing team (Ferrari Club Italia then Michelotto), of Luca Sartori.

I saw many years ago the car in Milan, because the owner is Mr Schon of Rossocorsa.

The car is RED, Rossocorsa has rewrapped it last month in the 1994 livery, because of the auction, but i prefere it in the late 93 livery, light blue on white with "Nautica Casarola" sponsor.

74047 is one of the fastest GTN Michelotto cars (560-580 hp, 1000 kg before ballast, full GTN suspension package), but it has been heavily damaged two times at Mugello under the rain and in Vallelunga.

It's funny that the car is auctioned in Monaco, where lives the first owner.

    Wouldn't a prototype have 5 slats not 4?

Maybe but not for 74047 which has been fitted with ultra lightweight Michelotto bonnet and tail.

Michelotto is the one who designed it with 5 vents, Ferrari insisted on 4 as homage to FIAT. So that seems flawed.

just repeating what I read from Italy ;)
