I dunno exactly; something like 1300 cars worldwide with 313 or so (guessing) US cars. Production is higher than one would think, certainly higher than enzo's, but you just don't see them on the road often (for many reasons). I think owners of these cars are more likely to keep them too. Its fun to have (at least) one car that's an old school stick. F40 is the ultimate driver's car, albeit not as fast but requires some skill to enjoy, big smile factor. Its certainly an old car by today's standards. Just my opinion.
The Enzo is lighter, but the GTO is able of similar 100-200 km/h time. Shorter gearing and faster gearshifts. 200! Really? I always known that the Enzo's mile speed was around 190 mph. The 200 mph speed seems to me too much closer to the Veyron territory.
Only one problem: the Enzo is a ROAD car and where ca you do 200 mph legally? Acceleration through the gears to 60 or 75 or whatever is perfectly legal in most places and so you just have more FUN with an F40. I have driven 3 Enzos and whilst I thought they wer very quick, I thought the delivery was clinical. On the other hand the F40s power delivery is perhaps one of the most exhilarating automotive experiences and produces an adrenalin rush like few legal things can . I love the drama of the F40, the fact that one false move and you are dead, and the fact that after a spirited run I get out shaking. I love the creaks & rattles, the popping & banging on overrun. It needs a good driver to do its thing, and you have to be strong & brave to use it as it should be used. That's a Supercar.
+1 Love these words! Even more sense driving a Euro spec car. Rumour said it can around 180 mph on the mile distance. This is not so dramatically far from the Enzo. I also recently drived a black Enzo owned by a customer (I hope to give in one day) and the impression is really hilarious but as Joe is saying the F40 to me is able to produces an adrenalin rush so different and intense. No matter if the Enzo is able of 10 mph more on the mile distance thanks to the electronic aids or F1 gearbox...is the feeling of immersion that is great. I own also a recent 458 Italia, also it's fast, but to me it's not exactly the same thing. Here you can push down the throttle almost everywhere and the steering wheel seems to be so perfect, brakes are so strong. With the F40 is always a war with my heart in throat. I would like to ask the same things to Tom Kristensen and Derek Bell about their Audi R10 or Porsche 962...We know for sure which is the most effective on the track, but I'd like to know about fun.
So what did you think? I saw that car about 3 weeks ago. Looks gorgeous. https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/314182_10151445947890284_501530283_22847897_793683261_n.jpg
With an F1 pilot and a factory 'tuned' standard non-cats car I heard even more. But we better not discuss that upon a public forum! Could be trouble....
So basically, you prefer a mediocre car (by today's standards) to a truly great one, just because it's less composed. Interesting.
I think you missed the point he is trying to make. There are still people such as myself who still prefer no driver aids.
It was great, very strong car. I think there was a problem with the brakes, they made a horrible noise
Did the squeal a lot when braking? If yes, most F40s do that when the brakes/pads are cold. Especially at city driving speed.
The pads fitted to USA cars are hard racing items and they do this when cold. Warming them up with hard braking partially solves the problem. For road use softer pads is the solution. Great speaking with you.
There is no way one can call the F40 a mediocre car by any standards...! It is quite extraordinary, even if I'd prefer an Enzo on the basis of relative rarity and future value...
