Why do I see so many more threads about the 3 cars but not so much about the F50? I like the F50 but maybe thats because I kind of grew up in the F50 era as a kid then enzo as a teenager so I tend to like those more. Although an F40 in blue crome wrap looks amazing!

The 288 was the first of the era. The F40 is the brutal one, amd the Enzo is the latest and greatest. So the F50 kind if falls behind. It's an amazing car, but I personally would choose it last. Plus, a lot of the people here grew up on the 288, amd F40. So that's what they want.

I was thinking the same this week as well, there isn't much discussion about the F50 vs the others, especially the F40.

I love the F50 but it would be 3rd in my "dream stable" behind the F40 and 288GTO.

The F50 is great car so no hate coming from me. :)

Yeah thats what I was thinking at people growing up with the 288. I've seen the F40 and enzo upclose at a ferrari dealership meet years ago in by Wurzburg germany. It was amazing because you could hear the cars coming from a mile away on the autobahn

I grew up with 288 and F40 posters on my bedroom walls but I am over them now. The Enzo is so much better in every conceivable way; there is just no comparisson! I am sure the Enzo-replacement will be even more fantastic! I am always for the lastest and greatest. I find nostalgia amusing as a concept.

Just about the best noise to ever come from a road vehicle.

Speaking only for myself I think the F50 gets alot of love but you (we) never see them and I am not sure why that is? I have never ever seen one in person or driven on the streets (same for the Enzo) but I have seen both the F40 and 288GTO being driven on the streets. I cannot explain this phenomenon as I would be ecstatic seeing and hearing an F50, I have not given up all hope at such an encounter.

There are numerous reasons why the F50 gets no love...

As stated already, it followed a pretty tough act in the F40. That car was the last of a dying breed (high power, low weight, no electronics outside of engine management, inspired by road course style race car tech), and also one of the first cars to apply some of the modern composite technology that you see in road cars today. It was also the first road car to break 200mph. That it was both a beast and a charm to drive didn't bode well for the F50 either...

In many ways the F50 tried to mimic the F40, but instead of taking its cues from traditional road course racers it borrowed ideas from F1 (engine bolted directly to the chassis, pushrod suspension, high revving n/a V12, etc). The result was a car that, by the numbers, was basically the same as the F40, but instead delivered a more refined and sharper performance experience (think modern day GT2 versus F1 experience). These factors weren't good for press, as the car didn't really advance itself numerically, nor did it shock and charm experientially. It was brilliant, but only to those that would give it the time of day, which, admittedly, was hard to do after the F40's initial success (remember, it was so good that over 1400 were built...).

    Ad infinitum.

The F50 will garner more attention with time. Find and read evo's article on the four supercars. They reckon the F50 as the best driver's car...

It's dues are coming, no worries.

    :)
