1989 930 coupe value

How badly do you want it?

 

I would venture to say in the range of $45K on the low side to up to $65K with that mileage....at the present time, but prices are on the rise steadily, and rightfully so for these iconic supercars. Seen super low mileage original examples, of ANY 930 go for much higher.

 

With that kind of mileage I'd say around $50K+/-, unless its in unusually great condition. A nearly flawless 89 930 with around 25K for miles sold not too long ago for around $65K.

89 is the only year the 930 was equipped with a 5spd (rather than a 4spd), and some people will pay a premium for it. Others say the 5th gear isn't worth it and would rather have a pre-89 car.

Also, find out if yellow is its original paint. Its not a very common color for a late model 930, although I have seen one late model 930 that was a special order in yellow.

 

I've never seen one in yellow. Not sure it would command a premium unless someone really wanted that color.

I wasn't suggesting it would command a premium. As yellow was quite rare for a new Porsche in the 1980s, I would be suspicious about it. If I were a potential buyer I would want to know if it was factory original paint, or a repaint from some aftermarket place (whether by choice or as a result of an accident). To me a 930 with an aftermarket paint job, in a non factory color, would be worth less to me (particularly if accident related).

Below is a link to an 89 930 that Sloan sold a few years ago. It was a factory "paint to sample" car in Fly Yellow. In the late 80s the only yellow I recall seeing offered by the factory was "Summer Yellow" which was much lighter in color.

I'm not a fan of yellow cars so whether or not its factory paint I wouldn't pay a premium.

the 89 the op is likely talking about is not a true fly yellow but more of a pastel. very attractive!

 

I've seen Summer Yellow on a 3.2 Carrera from the late 80s, but never on a Turbo. Summer Yellow is can look sort of pastel under some lighting conditions. I guess it will be interesting to eventually find out whether the car was painted yellow at the factory or at a later date.

there are some good 3.3 turbos available but they are getting dear when it comes to full stock offerings or even full stock appearing w/ tasteful engine mods.

they are tremendous machines and worth the investment in finding a really good to great car. i am glad that mine will be in my hands til it is time for me to pass it on to the younger generation.

When I heard it was a yellow 89 I figured there was a strong probability it was repainted. That paint to sample car was the only late model factory yellow 930 I had ever seen, or heard of. With these cars the more mods and further they get from being original, the less valuable they become.

From the sound of things smart choice to run...and fast!

 

Maybe older than you're looking for, but this is a car I would like to marry when I grow up.

I've seen that in photos, never in person. Still pretty rare.

930s seem to have been sold in black like 308/328s were sold in red -- someone had to summon up the courage to order a different color.

The inventory at CPR is capable of inducing a heart attack if you're not prepared. Good Lord, everything they have is perfect - the burgundy 1970 S is sublime and worthy of having a perpetual spotlight shine upon it in your garage.

That certainly makes a lot of sense. Afterall, shopping for a 20+ year old Porsche or Ferrari is largely based on emotions, as these cars are neither a necessity nor practical. Luckily you didn't make a decision solely based on emotion. There are still many great examples of these iconic cars and a smart buyer will purchase the best example they can find and afford. Bargain priced cars can often have many unexpected pitfalls and expenses, which can make the better/originally more costly examples the smarter and less expense purchase in the end.

 

When my father bought a new 930 in the late 80s, it seemed like an even split between 930s in Guards Red and Black.

My Dad couldn't decide so he bought one that was black on red.

 

I'm guilty of the red or black 911 option. All of my past 911s including a 930 (around 10 to date) were either black or red, except for an Albert blue early 911. Having said this, I expanded to white recently.
