Has anyone used this high output alternator for the Delco 348?...
Has anyone used this high output alternator for the Delco 348? http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-9413-alternator-high-output-200-amp-30l-eagle-medallion-premier-88-89.aspx Any opinions good or bad?
Just incase anyone was wondering. I actually bought this after asking the company a few questions. I was skeptical about it being new and really at the output they said. But after seeing some high output kits available for the Delco CS130 alternator (which this is) I went ahead and bought it. I'm happy to say it is actually all new, including the case, and is indeed very high output. The stator, rotor and regulator are much beefier than the 105 amp version. A quick pulley swap and it went right in. No need for extra wiring either as Ferrari ran battery cable all the way to the alternator. And for the icing on the cake I don't get that F@&$%G engine rpm drop when the fans kick on at idle. Idles smooth and never skips a beat.
Good to know, and thanks for sharing. This will help out the guys running the Delco units. By the way, what's the price?
It would be great confirmation, if the next person to obtain one, has it tested to confirm the output. What a great alternative to doing the ND upgrade.
This is designed for a jeep or eagle.....these motors are not high rev'rs. Most Ferrari's spends their life in the higher rev range. Are the alternaters bearings able to take the consistently higher revs of a ferrari motor?
Any alternator is tailored for it's specific application via the pulleys. Ferrari has compensated to run the alternator at the proper speed with the pulleys it has installed. The alternator itself needs no "special" parts of any kind because it's not doing anything different than on a Jeep or Eagle.
I am interested to install this alternator. You said you swap the pulley? Can you tell me exactly how to do it? Any photos to show me? Thanks.
I hate to intrude in this 348 Brotherhood love-fest D), but has anybody heard of any potential aftermarket alternator HO upgrade for the F355 alternator? If not, has anybody been able to ascertain the correct replacement part numbers for the brushes and stator?
Scott, I think you might reach a wider audience by either starting a new thread or reviving on older one that directly addresses the 355 ND alternator.
Dave, you're correct. However, I looked for a LONG time and I had no luck with either part. IIRC, even Ernie and ND did searches with no luck. I'm going to ask Dave Helms next time I call him.
Easy as can be... you need an impact gun to remove the nut and the washer, pulley and spacer can now be moved to the new alternator. Re-install in the same order, then use the impact gun to tighten. Voila! DF
What about this alternator? It looks like it has a cooling fan built-in? Good price too. But, will it really fit on 348? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1990-Ferrari-348-Alternator-Brand-NEW-Delco-/300633123194?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45ff21697a&vxp=mtr
You went ahead and put the 14KW amp in the trunk? That speaker will warp the bonnet skin... Youve been warned! You fix what is in there, no need to resplit the atom here.
That alternator is a stock 105 amp for $300. The one I bought was 200 amp for $220. It will fit but without seeing the side view of the pulley it can't be determined if it is an OEM Ferrari. My pulley is black so right there I'm going to say no. All alternators have a cooling fan built in, 2 in fact. One inside and the one you see outside, which is why the "heat shield" Ferrari puts on it makes absolutely no sense. It's more like a "heat hat"
I called customer service to order this alternator. I asked if I need to change the pulley, the customer service person said the 6 grooves pulley that comps with the alternator will work for 5 grooves belt, so no need to change. You just align the belt to the 5 grooves what you need to use. Any thoughts on this?
My thoughts are "they have no idea and just gave you the answer that would make you happy" I can say for certain: 1. The original Ferrari pulley is larger in diameter than the one that came on the replacement alternator. 2. The ferrari pulley takes no washer because the nut won't fit deep enough. The pulley on the replacement had a very thick lock washer. I have no idea what this means to the alignment of the belt because I didn't care. I was swapping the pulley. I would NOT use the supplied pulley. See jqpd99's reply. It's just that easy.
I just replaced my 348 with this alternator. So far so good; however, in very hot day, the alternator seems to charge slower.
My 1990 348 TS has an ND alternator that isn't performing well. I am planning on rebuilding with Regitar parts (cheap, but apparently lacking longevity). Can the referenced 200 amp alternator replace the current ND?
This company seem to have all Denso parts NIPPONDENSO (denso) type Alternator Bridge Rectifiers, including upgraded bridge rectifiers. I bought a spare set for my 348 Denso, the quality looks pretty good.
I am using this one at 160 amps. Replaces - DELCO 10463079, 1101267, 1102644 https://www.dbelectrical.com/products/alternator-high-output-160-amp-3-0-monaco-90-91-92-eagle-premier.html
