    The scissor lift is not as useful as the maxjax for doing engine outs, there is a lot of junk under the car that prevents you from doing work under the car. I think (but only think) that you "could" do a engine out with the scissor lift, it may get in the way. But you can easily do the engine out with the maxjax, I love the maxjax, great lift.

    Come to Calif and you can try both out at my house.

    A four post lift is best for home use IMHO; you can use it for simple maintenance, engine out maintenance as well as storage. I have had one in my garage for over a decade and can't imagine not having one.

    yes, the maxjax is really portable in a "kind of" way. It takes me about 20 minutes to move it to the driveway and bolt it up to the driveway and the same to put it away. So when doing oil changes on multiple cars its worth it, when doing it on only one, its less worth it. I try to work out all the oil changes same weekend (4 cars).

    I have to agree with the 4post comment, its the best of both worlds, you just drive on, lift, work, lower and drive off, no issue with lining up the lifting arms under the car or anything. I have one of those also but its primarily used as a storage lift to get more cars in the garage, I did pull the Dino gearbox with the 4post, that was easy. I have seen pics posted here about doing engine out on a 348 or 355 (can't remember which one) but it seemed less than fun compared to the maxjax.

    I'd love to see some info on doing engine out with 4 posts if anyone has references.

    I have a storage need now, but may need the ability to do engine out in the future, so that would be great if a 4 post would work for both.

    I have a 4 post as well and its great for home use. Lets me store an extra car in the garage as well if I need to. Not really a good idea to store cars with a 2 post lift but they are better for working on the cars.

    I love my two post lift. They take up less room than a four post and are much better for maintenance. Normally they aren't as good for storing a car, but I made some wheel engaging adaptors so I can lift a car by the wheels if I want. So now I have the best of both worlds.

    I made them. I have a bit of experience designing aluminum parts and happen to have several 4-axis machining centers at my disposal. Mohawk sells some adaptors for their lifts. This easiest and cheapest thing would have been to buy theirs, but I just couldn't bring myself to do so as they are ugly steel weldments and weren't the best fit on my cars.
