I really don't get what all the fuss is about.

The new area is for all purposes the same as the exisiting owners forum in the silver subscribed section, except that it's called the Australian owners forum. Anyone on F chat who has access to the owners forum also has access to the "Australian Owners Forum'.
There's nothing new about the owners only forum on Ferrarichat, it's been around for several years and owners have always been able to carry on discussions there.

If you have a Ferrari it shouldn't be too hard to get to meet some Fchat members who will vouch for you - the Ferrari community in Australia is surprsingly small, and you'd be surprised 'who knows who".

MY issue is that I am being excluded from a section of the forum which I PAY to access. I do not have others to vouch for me nor do I intend going out of my way to find said referees.I was at auto italia but I didn't go around asking who was an fchat member.
Other valuable contributors to this forum who do not currently own a ferrari will also be excluded.
The aussie forum is the sum of it's contributors some of whom will be lost beacause of this change.

Exactly. There is no ****ing point to it if its just another owners section. Greg made it sound in the OG thread that it was going to be a vouching system of anyone in Oz that was "active" in fchat not owners only.

If it's just another owners section, might as well just move this sub-section under that owners section.

Rob Lay said he didn't want to make a new vouching system, fair enough, no quarrel there so might as well not have it at all.

If we did a re-vote on the REAL purpose of the section the NO vote would win by a landslide.

 

You're only excluded because you choose not do what is required to gain entry, that's your choice. A lot of the active Fchat participants do know each other ( or have got to know each other as a result of Fchat ), so it's hardly going out of one's way to meet people.

The original request was "is it possible to have a limited access forum for known regulars whether they own a Ferrari or not" the simple answer was "no" and had this been the outcome that would be fine. The fuss is because not only does the delivered outcome not match the request it splits the group.

I don't own a Ferrari and am unlikely to own one in the foreseeable future, however the regulars in the Aussie section of fchat are a great cross section of high performance car enthusiasts and as such is a great place to hang out. Splitting what is a small group is not going to be a positive IMHO

why should I have to do anything to ingratiate myself to you so you can vouch for me. If I have occasion to socialise with other members of this forum I will gladly do so .
my good conduct on this forum along with my silver subscription should be enough to gain entry.

Due to forum rules I can't quote the post but I agree, there should be some effort involved with being part of the owners club of fchat. My issue is this wasn't suppose to be an owners section.

I think the vouching system is the issue. It would not take long for accusations of inconsistency or favourism to surface - what standard do you apply for entry ? Number of posts, are you in the "in crowd" or whatever other subjective barrier the mod at the time uses. All very messy.
At least the owners club admission system is consistent and well understood, which is why I think R.L. has kept it that way.
My view is that the Aussie owners section is not going to get much use at all - I base this on the number of Australian owners who have bothered to join the existing owners forum ( not many at all until today).
