The well documented and voluminous story so heavily featured in the eBay description of this car is Fantuzzic!

    It's no reserve.

Too bad my piggy-bank is empty. That's a superb looking car. Was it built by Fantuzzi on a new chassis, or was it created on an accidented car? Does anyone have the whole, real story on this car?

The car was never "always in Italy".

I already posted a photo of that car when in the US.

If this car wet out of the factory gates in standard Touring-specification and/or when this modification was done is unclear and can only answered by the factory archive.

In the previous thread about this car, we discussed that this car has Maserati VIN 101.2218, which would make it a 1962 or 1963 GTI.

The Masreati I.D. data plates/tags are not correct. The tags are for a later car. E.G. Mistral or Quattroporte. There should be a Fantuzzi tag somewhere, correct?

The $$$ question is did Fantuzzi body this car originally or re-body the car after Touring did? Very few 3500 GT's were "custom bodied". Frua and Moretti and Bertone did only a few. There is also the count Lippi Special is one that I know of.

It sounds like a great story. Fabio Collina at Maserati would be able to answer this question to whom ever is willing to pay for the answer.

I personally like the car for what it is. Get the proper documentation and go from there.

*** The photos below are the "Count Lippi Special" *** The Data plates are from the "Fantuzzi Special" **

Whatever the case - the seller has to proof that the car was modified by old Fantuzzi (what I doubt!).

And I am pretty sure tat not Medardo Fantuzzi modified it. He is known for much better jobs he did...
But perhaps his son was involved...

This is a strange engine. Upon close examination I noticed the oil filer in in the top of the head and the Webber's appear to be 40DCO' as fitted to the A6G54 2000. The number of cam cover nuts and the distributor tell us it is NOT an A6G/54. Strange.
I am guessing this is a home built car with no significances what so ever.
I'll ask around when I am in Modena next week.
    Ciao,
    FGM

According to the data plate on the car, the motor number is 1281. Maybe that will help a little. Keep us posted!

Chassis #1281 is a 3500 Spyder Vignale that has matching-no.`s! So I strongly assume that even this detail is wrong with this "Fantuzzi-or-whoever-it-was"-car.

    Hi Walter

I recon just given the design and the running gear it is an interesting car.

It is a shame that the add reads like its a special engine which we all know isnt.

I rather like it and even if the true identity will nevre be known.

It will be interesting to see just how much it fetches. 4 days to go and now at 160 US , this will be interesting.

    Regards
    Graeme

I don't know why they have to have all the BS in the ad. Let the car stand on the truth.

Attached the plates from the unrestored 3500 GTI Frua Coupé AM 101.2242 (1962) for comparison
