Awesome Pete. Almost flat through turn one. Very good for your first run at the Island. It's a fun circuit. I'm jealous.
We had a few local instructors there to help get to know the track & a couple had never been in a Radical & they were blown away with the downforce, corner speed & brakes. Our data engineer was telling me after practice there was 0.8 sec to be made into turn 2 & another 0.8 over Lukey.... this was where I had a little trouble. The instructors talked about they always were cautious at Hayshed & Lukey.....Hayshed was no issue in the Radical as you can see it is taken flat
It is flat through turn 1, it slows as you turn the wheel into the corner with the wheel drag, watch the throttle green light in the first lap, 2nd lap I had to back off to avoid the orange car coming across to my line into 2. James Winslow a F3, Indy Lights, A1 champ, did a 1.32 in practice which is very fast when I look at the lap records at PI, He was faster than Simonsen & Lowndes' 1.33 lap records.
Lukey is a tricky part of the track and where a lot of time can be made. That's where I made a heap of time when I did the quick time in the 308. I spoke to an old bloke and he said you just have to believe the car will come back i.e. go faster entry into the turn (for those who don't know it is blind). You actually drift out but he was right the car did come back in time to brake and you have to sacrificea bit to get a good exit out of MG. Scary but rewarding all the same.
I agree it was the most daunting in practice, I was braking for the corner initially, the quicker amatuer guys just lift a little then flat, eventually I was just lifting & not braking. I was told Winslow doesn't lift at all through Lukey. Brakes are so good in the Radical you don't really feel you won't stop for MG. I look forward to the next time given the small amount of experience now.
he's a gun driver, isn't he? Fastest man in NSW FCA, would be interesting to put him against Horse and you in a same car/same track situation.
Thanks Ian & all the comments are very kind, it was awesome & is a sensational track, it is everything everyone says. Have I said today....I love my Radical tm pp
