Go for 3.2... Forget 997 - forget 993 due to too high prices - forget 964 due to availablitiy of good stuff.
a new car Porsche salesman of 35 years plus tells me the best current 911 porsche to buy new,is the base model 997 (a year ago)
This 86 Targa caught my eye as I was driving by the lot earlier this week. I stopped in to have a look & it is very, very nice. I sold a car to the owner a few years ago & he runs a straight-up shop - if you're interested. http://cardiff-classics.ebizautos.com/detail-1986-porsche-911-carrera_targa-used-8636083.html
the 89 speedster is a classic and a real looker...unfortunately the prices are now up as it has become a major collectible....
That's shockingly high for for a 915-box Targa Carrera with those miles- For low $20's you can get a 110K or so G50 Coupe. Like mine. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Out of your 911 choices as a DD, I would take the most modern, potentially most reliable, and most stable value-wise: 997 GT3.
high, yes, maybe not shockingly so. most of the US targas have magically migrated back to Europe so there's a bit of a supply/demand issue for targas in the US right now.
Really? I think 997s have about 10-15 years of price drops ahead of them. Probably worth every penny, but...
I agree, $26K is in the ballpark if the engine is strong. Targas used to be less popular, but seem to be gaining more of a fan base. They're very tempting in black, IMHO. Very retro cool.
my 88 911 Carrera will be for sale soon. 51k miles, window sticker, ect. I really want to buy some land, now that i have a bank i can deal with. $21500.00 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think you're right on that one. That and maybe the GT2 RS, just because there aren't that many of them.
A friend of mine just bought a 2005 Carrera S with 100k miles for $20k. The car is looks mint with lots of options, original paint, non smoker, older lady owned. That's the type of car to buy and don't worry about a thing.
Mainly because the 997 GT2RS has taken it's massive depression hit already. Most of them lost $75k plus off of MSRP last year. The GT3 is still the best bang for the buck with a much larger pool of buyers when you go to sell. Who wants a turbo anyway
My fav is 993, the last no-water one. Uber reliable, less problems then used 996 and abused 997. If you are cofortable spending a lil more cash and wont worry about dor dings / bent wheels / scratched paint and rock chips, get a good 997. I personally don't like interior plastic stuff inside and silver paint on switches wears up very quickly, but otherwise wonderful car! 911/Boxster/Cayman either break down at first 30k miles or run forever (IMS issue)
average milage for a daily driver is 12-15,000 miles per year... this car is 7 years old... selling for $20,000, this car returned a greater portion of its' original sticker than many cars out there... Porsche cars seem to consistantly return a greater portion of their cost than many other choices and given their owners relatively trouble free service and value, plus a fun factor
Well there's always the option of buying at $60k without a warranty and have a high bill if something major goes wrong. I see your point, but these cars aren't much more expensive to run than anything else out there.
Thanks for asking. I've learned a lot in this thread so far. I'm still struggling with how old or new of a 911 would be best for me. For example, here is a red/tan 1986 930 Turbo that looks pretty interesting ($39,900, 48k miles, in New Mexico): http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/porsche/930/1368922.html And here is a local white/black 2007 911 for $51,981 (21k miles, stick-shift, base C2 model): http://www.porscheofsilverspring.com/used-cars/2007-porsche-911-carrera-2dr-cpe-v975644/ Too many choices. I'd go for the 2007... it looks like it's in great shape. Driving an old car is fun for a Sunday... but I'd hate it as a daily driver.
