What's the top speed for a "stock" ZL-1?

    About 184 or 185 MPH.

Conditions for the test were anything but ideal.

That makes me wonder what the top end on the 1100-horsepower Shelby 1000 S/C is.

Top end is a combination of high end power, aerodynamics, and gearing. The Ford Shelby GT500 reaches top speed in 5th, where the ZL1 does in 6th. 6th's RPM gear limit is around 220, Our ZL1's thrust = drag point is somewhere a little north of 202 MPH. Changing the gears might help, it might not. The Shelby may require a taller gear set in the GT1000 to make any real difference to top end. But... it will get there quicker than factory ;)

yep... Chevy did it right with the ZL1... not all muscle... but plenty of tech goodies to keep all all together... I love my SS but that ZL1 is on another level.

Why would anybody want this when they can have a Corvette ZR1 for less money?

A NEW ZR1 for less money? Last year, a used ZR1 sold at auction for $77,000 +-. A VERY low price.... That is still not cheaper than the ZL1.

Why? 4 seats, some people prefer the Camaro's styling, first on the block with one... plenty of reasons why somebody would if they were the same price.

There's many listed on the Corvette Forum for under $100K, so they're available.

Fully installed for the 700+ package is an less than 12k. Still less than a ZR1 :) For the 630 package is just over 2k.
