I don't normally post amateur club stuff, but I just can't help it. I've never had a race this good. Spec Racer Ford is a tough class and I managed to win after starting last and in a 23-car field at the inaugural SCCA Majors National race at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday, and I am still pinching myself.

    http://www.scca.com/news/index.cfm?cid=51009

"Keith Verges, of Dallas, Texas, was on the wrong end of Saturday’s Spec Racer Ford photo finish, and had to start from the rear of the field Sunday after retiring during the qualifying race. But that did not deter him from slicing through the 23-car field and into the lead by lap six. Driving his No. 69 Apex Driving Academy Spec Racer Ford, Verges held off Saturday winner and early leader Denny Stripling and his No. 4 Lightspeed Motorsports entry to take the win. Rick Bellew took the lead briefly in his No. 10 entry, but a problem with his arm restraints caused him to miss a shift, dropping him to third place."

Saturday was also an amazing race, with timing and scoring placing me first by .004, but a literal photo finish going to Denny. And in the qualifying race in which I had a DNF, places 1-4 were covered by .16 sec.

Congrats on your win, has to be a great feeling especially with the competition level seen in spec ford. You have every right to post and be proud of yourself.

that is awesome Keith, congrats! one thing to win some regional SCCA classes with a handful of cars, but you are competing in one of the largest and most competitive classes. everyone that has raced with you knows you are one of the top talents. keep it going, Runoffs?

Too early to say about Runoffs, but maybe. It is nice to think I can show up with a competitive car, unlike prior experience. If Denny Stripling and I can pound on each other hard enough to raise our game, then it might be worth a shot.

SRF is one of the deepest, most competitive classes in US racing, let alone SCCA. A good result in a contested national SRF race says a hell of a lot more about you as a racer than a win in US Ferrari Challenge, so forget "lowly." I tip my hat to you.

Have you raced in the SE Div? Very tough SRF group there, great place to learn.

    Great job!

Glad you posted it, isn't this the sort of reason that this "other racing" subforum exists?

I've run SCCA Nationals in highly-competitive, "spec-type" cars (FF 1600) and disagree with the thread's label "Lowly..." Your last to first drive in that race was a huge accomplishment, something many pros would want on their resume. Congratulations!

I rented a little bit in 2010-11 but bought a car last year and have been working on getting it fully up to speed. Actually, Tom Dalrymple has been doing all the real work and it is nice to have someone help so I can focus more on driving and just enjoying the weekend.

I'd love to race in SEDIV, but have not done so in SRF as yet. I've only done maybe 12 races in SRF so far and so have not gotten around too much
