I've been looking at Porsche Caymans online lately and figured I'd reach out to my F-Chat family to see if anyone has any advice or knows of any specific issues. I'd prefer a Cayman S, but if I found a Cayman I really loved, I'd forgo the extra power. :)

I'll probably test drive one in the next week or so to make sure I don't feel too squished. Assuming that's not an issue, I should be looking to purchase one very soon. I want to buy myself a graduation present. Hehe. :)

    Thanks!!

They're great cars.. I've never owned one but I've driven a few. I was looking at them also before ending up with a base 911.

What year are you looking at?

Had a 2006 Cayman S for 3 year put 30K miles on it not one issue (sold with 39K miles on it) - tracked it 3 different times was planning on putting GT3 LCA on as this would reduce tire consumption at the track.

Great handling car and a fantastic daily driver....

Did put Tubi rear section exhaust on it - great sound.

Sold it to finance getting a C2S with Champion F77 package - which is a really fun car...

I like Caymans, get an S for sure.

they're pretty solid cars, biggest issue (as with most German cars) is needlessly complex electronics. a few friends have tracked the snot out of them with no issues other than the accelerated maintenance schedule.

since you're in Florida, what about a Boxster S?

Probably 2007-2009 with less than 40k miles.

I'd like to find a 6 speed, black on black Cayman. I'll probably add the 19" turbo wheels. I like them. :)

I saw the pics of your new car. It's beautiful! Congrats, to you!
Good to hear! I'll check out youtube for the sound clips of Tubi exhaust on a Cayman. I'm interested to hear how it sounds. :)

I looked at Boxsters too, but I think I prefer the design of the Cayman, even if they cost a bit more. I'm planning to move to South FL soon, so I was thinking having a convertible would be fun. :) I guess we'll see. Too bad there aren't any convertible Caymans.

The look of the Cayman has really grown on me. I didn't care for them much at first. One advantage to the Boxster is they seem to be a little less expensive.

I saw a Cayman on 495 last night with a roof rack carying it's track tires.

Cayman's look great. Drive great and would be a good car for you.

I am with you as well as the Boxster look does nothing for me but the Cayman looks good.

LOL!!! It looks totally different to me for some reason. The front bumper is slightly different and I don't really like the rear on the Boxsters. :) Regardless, that's probably one of the dumbest things I've said on F-Chat. :D :p

    oh I doubt that :p

I agree with you, the Cayman looks better, but a convertible in Miami would be pretty sweet :)

    Do not sweat it.
I dont consider them to be the same car either and any Porshe dealer worth his salt will go to great lengths to explain they are different.
As proof he'll show you the price tags.

Only Porshe could charge more for a convertable than a hardtop and get away with it. Clever buggers.

So if you are even remotely a convertable person (that just sounds weird) go for the Boxster S and get the even more versitile car for less.
If you want a manual good for you. Better car for < $. The PDK is said to be a great box. Just say No to Tiptronic.

    Seen the Speedster version ?

I have had an '07 S the past 3 years. It's my daily driver. It is a great car and exceptionally useful for a sports car. You can load 3 cases of bottled beer in the front and still have plenty of space in back. I have used mine to go to Walmart, to Chicago and LA not to mention a number of track days. Several Porsche afficiandos have told me it is the best handling Porsche--period. The only problem I have had is the TPMS that likes to give warnings. I understand this is a common problem.

Steph, Caymans are fun little cars. My mother has a Cayman S with Turbo wheels that I drive when I'm at their house. I tracked it once and it was a blast. Definitely go with the stick vs. the horrible tiptronic. Power is good and there's plenty of go in all gears, but I wouldn't want any less than the S has to offer. The mother puts a ton of miles on it and hasn't ever had any issue. If you have the means, I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up especially in a warm climate.

YAY!! Great info, guys!! I just wanted to make sure it's a good car before searching for the perfect one. I think I will go to the Porsche dealership and test drive both the Cayman and the Boxster. I'm sure that will help.

When I bought my 3 series, I went to the dealership wanting a z4 or 5 series and wound up with a 3, so who knows what I'll do? :)

I'm pretty set on the Cayman S right now. I just want to find the perfect one that doesn't have lots of miles.

I think having a convertible would be fun in S. FL, but I love the Cayman. I want to buy myself something cute and sporty for college graduation and don't mind spending the extra money to get what I want. I work hard and feel like I've earned it. :D

I prefer the Cayman over the Boxster as well...and I generally like convertibles. I had an 07. If it wasn't for the excessive road/tire noise on the worn out Seattle freeways, I'd still be driving it daily.

If the new Boxster is any indication, I'd wait for the 2013 Cayman. Significant restyling, and the base version will probably outperform the current S.
