Looks like the team will be 15-4 shortly, barring the type of melt-down that we all remember. Good offense, the pitching looks solid for a change -- perhaps a three-peat this season?
Out of all seriousness, the Rangers are off to an insanely hot start - Yu Darvish was a beast on the mound yesterday. You guys have a strong chance of being back in the WS, and as long as my Cardinals aren't playing the Rangers, (which will happen, because the Cards WILL win the pennant again this year) I'll root for you guys.
lol Rangers can't catch a break....second overall last year, second team with a thread on Fchat this year...
That was a good game. Offense really got going with 3 homers by Beltre, Napoli, and Moreland. Pitching wasn't the best, but Ross did a great job after Feldman left. The "Yankees Suck" chants could be heard throughout the game, especially when Hamilton was intentionally walked. Was gladly yelling those chants from section 238.
Looks like Harrison may get the L shortly...7 runs on 14 hits. Mark Lowe isn't doing too great in relief. Just gave up a solo shot to Luke Scott. He also can't seem to find the zone.
Things are interesting now. Kinsler up with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th, 1 out. 8-4 Tampa.
Cards fans are the worst Rangers have looked pretty strong. Hopefully they can maintain it all the way till the FINAL out of the world series this time.
History was just made, as Hamilton hit his 4th homerun of the night. 14th time in MLB history a player has hit 4 homers in one game. And he did it off of former Ranger Darren O'Day.
Pretty sure 4 is the record. I agree, Josh Hamilton is arguably the best player in the game now. Ever since the home run derby a few years back the guy's been on fire!
True for the most part. Though the 2011 postseason was rough for him, as he was limited to one homer all postseason, thanks to a groin injury. I'm happy for him. After going through what he went through a few years ago, he finally becomes a part of MLB history. In 3 consecutive at-bats (his last one from last night, and first two from tonight), he hit three homers. He ended up going 5-5 tonight, his other hit being a double off the wall in right center. After the 4th homer, he got cheers from the crowd (both Rangers and O's fans), and Ron Washington and Nelson Cruz hugged him before he sit down. He was almost all smiles for the rest of the game. After Napoli caught the final popped ball, David Murphy and Elvis Andrus (he was on base for all 4 homers) came over to hug him and congratulate him on his performance. Well deserved. I hope he is in a Rangers uniform next year.
Oh boy... That home run derby was crazy. I still remember it and I can't believe Hamilton didn't win. The winner even said Hamilton should've won. Anyway, I should've watched the game tonight. Sound like Hamilton had a slightly above average game
Is that what they said on TV? It's actually 16th time in MLB history... Here's the list of the 16 men who have hit four home runs in a big league game: Josh Hamilton, Texas Rangers May 8, 2012 Carlos Delgado, Toronto Blue Jays Sept. 25, 2003 Shawn Green, Los Angeles Dodgers May 23, 2002 Mike Cameron, Seattle Mariners May 2, 2002 Mark Whiten, St. Louis Cardinals Sept. 7, 1993 Bob Horner, Atlanta Braves July 6, 1986 Mike Schmidt, Philadelphia Phillies April 17, 1976 Willie Mays, San Francisco GIants April 30, 1961 Rocky Colavito, Cleveland Indians June 10, 1959 Joe Adcock, Milwaukee Braves July 31, 1954 Gil Hodges, Brooklyn Dodgers August 31, 1950 Pat Seerey, Chicago White Sox July 18, 1948 Chuck Klein, Philadelphia Phillies July 10, 1936 Lou Gehrig, New York Yankees June 3, 1932 Ed Delahanty, Philadelphia Phillies July 13, 1896 Bobby Lowe, Boston Beaneaters May 30, 1894 FWIW, there have been more perfect games (21) than 4HR/game players!
We did the "what's Pujols gonna get paid" banter, might as well start the "what's Hamilton gonna get paid" jabber! Obviously, on-the-field, he's qualified for an 8-year & ~$25+ million/year deal. But, being "Josh Hamilton", in'lieu of his durability (missing chunks of the season w/ niggles & nagging stuff) & his very serious past demons (personal addictions), his contract will be less in length (5-6 years) & less in annual compensation (~$20'ish million). Being that MLB contracts are guaranteed w/ option-years & buy-outs, it's presumable that in-addition, an incentive-based package can up the actual tender offer. Hamilton needs to stay in the Metroplex. Not just for the Rangers. But truly for himself. A handful of million extra per-year & an extra year or two on a contract elsewhere is not worth it. Not at all whatsoever. Predicting Pujols pay-day was much easier than this, on my end. Admittedly, I think he'll either re-sign rather cheaply (relatively speaking) and/or there will be some largesse offers from other clubs (front-loaded contracts, etc). Amazing player. Watching him play reminds me of Rickey Henderson, Ken Griffey Jr, Barry Bonds v.1, and the like. Namely, elite all-around players relative to their contemporaries.
