What's your budget? I think all the 2006 and up models are great, but the deals on used 997.1's are just excellent ... Especially in your neck of the woods.

I also saw this SLK350 this morning and think it's adorable. I wanted a manual transmission, but it's super cheap and looks like fun. I also like that it's a hard top convertible. It rains a lot in FL and having a cloth top would make me nervous. My payments would be lower on that thing than they are on my Bimmer.

Unless anyone has any reason why I should stay away from them, I'm going to add it to my list of cars to test drive. Then, I'd be looking at a Cayman S, Cayman, Boxster, and SLK350. :)

I want something sporty and fun!! Weeee!! :D :)

I have never read any review of any SLK that didn't concede that the 986/987 cars are far, far better dynamically. But if you want an overpowered car this size, though, AMG puts a nice V8 in one of those things.

I was reading the reviews and they were saying that the Boxster is much better performance wise...and I still like the Cayman more than the Boxster.

I've been doing my research today. :)

    +1.

Have you looked at E46 M3?

Or...a Lotus Elise, though that wouldn't be practical or cute! :D

Steph, at this point you probably know that I drive and review all of these things. Why you haven't asked for my opinion is beyond me...

    Steph:

We have a Boxster S and love it. Nothing like feeling the wind in your hair and getting a tan while you drive.

Real women drive topless. As my wife does.

Even I'm surprised by how many American readers I have.

Their angry letters could be explained by their confusion with metric...

Steph - will you drive around any cones or a track at some point? Try to test your mad-skillz with Woman & Machine?

I think I may do just that! :D
So you agree that the Cayman or Cayman S are the best choices?
    Woohoo!! :) Very cute car.
LOL! Yeah, slalom is my middle name, yo! :D

    I'm sure that if I get a Cayman S, I will track it. :)

it's really not that hard, except for the fuel mileage calculations.

liters per hundred kilometers? my head hurts.

    Confusing? No, not at all...

Right now I'm averaging 10.6 in the Buick. The Raptor did something like 26.

I got down to 11 in the Cayman R when I stopped driving it like this:

Hey, Steph - what about Insurance premiums on each of the models, including your current mode of transport?

For instance - a person that has a CE Benz might see premiums double on an SL. I don't know where an SLK would fit in that range. Though an SLK would lower car payments compared to your current BMW-3, Insurance *may* be higher.

I had actually seen this Cayman S, but was afraid of buying a used car with 51k miles.

I really want black on black. I have tan interior in the Bimmer now and it's dirty as hell because I'm a little messer. LOL!

Also, if I buy from a private seller, I have to get rid of the Bimmer on my own which would be a pain in the ass.
I haven't called. I'll probably do that soon. I used to have a Mustang GT and when I bought the 3 series, my insurance dropped quite a bit. While the Mustang was deemed a "high performance vehicle" (ha!), I still thought the BMW would be higher because of the cost of repairs.

Personally, I'm focused more on finding a good Porsche mechanic and the physical age of the car. These cars are actually pretty reliable 2006 and up, but it's annoying when the plastic bits fall off.
