Just when I have decided to take the plunge and buy a BSM Ignition kit from Superformance. I was told by them on backorder from BSM in Aussie and no idea when they will be getting any. I have tried to contact them direct and as yet no reply. Apparently there is a problem with none supply!! Any body know whats happening or where there are any kits avaliable. wanting a single dissy model for a 77 308gt4. Thanks

There seem to have been some structural changes at BSM and I think I heard that the guy who builds the pdi ECUs for BSM is not doing that anymore. Anyway, give Colin at Superformance a call, he knows them quite well and should be able to give you some more infos.

    Good luck,
    Adrian

Spoken to Colin and know the full story, which I won't comment on here. It looks like this system is now no longer avaiable until the situation is resolved or someone else designs an alternative. Now stuck as wanted to add this electronic system to the car after speaking to people who have had it fitted with good results.

A possible alternative would be to lock out the advance mechanism in your dist and to install a MSD 6530. This approach is similar to a BSMpdi setup as it keeps the dist to deliver the spark to each cylinder but manages the advance timing via a programmed advance curve.

I used Crane hall-effect ignitions in 2 of my carb cars, one a series one GT4 with great results.

BSMpdi is not just a ignition seutp, but an ECU which replaces the advance weight mechanism against two selectable programmable curves, so you don't need to set up your dist on a distributor tester anymore and can program the curve on a rolling road instead.

Still seems that the BSM ignition kit isw not avaiable. has anyone done this conversion. Lock out the advance mechanism in your dist and to install a MSD 6530. This approach is similar to a BSMpdi setup as it keeps the dist to deliver the spark to each cylinder but manages the advance timing via a programmed advance curve. This is what alhbln has suggested. I liked the BSM as it looked original with a more modern distributor and a programmable ECU which could be hidden in the boot.

I heard from Tim at Black Stallion that they are developing a new version of the BSMpdi ignition controller so looks like they are still active and getting back in the game.

for dutch Ferraristi with the same problem: BAS autoservice Lichtenvoorde and ONIXX also in Lichtenvoorde builds distributors with build in programmble ecu for the advance. They set the up on the dyno, so custum for every car. Cost will be aprr. be the same or even cheaper as the BSM, if your distributor is in good order , and maybe still if it needs a rebuild.

I don't think they went out of business per se but they stopped making and selling BSMpdi's, at least to customers outside of Australia. Both Colin @Superformance and myself tried to get into contact with Tim for quite some time now but haven't been successfu. My last mail exchange with Tim was somewhere in 2010. Delta Digital/Einstein, the original maker of the BSMpdi supplied ECU, does not seem to be in business anymore so it looked like BSM would have stopped selling the BSMpdi setup.

The setup in the link above looks like the standard BSMpdi distributor with the Bosch cap, would be interesting to find out if they now have a new supplier for the ECU. Could you post a photo of the ECU?

The original system is still very much available and being sold.

I've got the old system installed temporarily until the new system comes on line soon. I had it in a previous 308 and it made a huge difference. The update, which I get it, will be even better again.

Leave it stock and set it up properly...

It's a classic car. My car runs like a bat out of hell with the original ignition.

You say that without the full knowledge I have, if you think that gives the same result.
