Does anyone know what year 308 antennas changed from chrome to black?

I'm betting on "never" since the antenna on my 85QV (last year for the 308) is chrome. That's just my observation though and I bow to the experts who could turn this into a zillion page thread

It's more of a brushed chrome. Not fully brushed, about 80 psi pressure with a #0000 steel wool. Not doing this in the proper proceedure will give it a completely wrong finish.
The pole when fully extended must be rubbed in a polishing compound. Making sure to only go with the longitudaul dirrection and not the opposing way. Then using the #0000 the pole is brushed down using long steady movements, making sure to keep up a continuous motion for about 5 minutes. When done and cleaned the pole portion can be safely lowered. The instructions are readily available if you do a google search.

October 1985 car here ('85 model), black antenna. No, I don't polish it :) No one should be using "pole" and "continuous motion" in the same sentence on here.
