Where can I find new screws for all the window trim, chrome moldings, etc? A restoration shop said go to a good hardware store. Surely there's a better answer?

Cheap/inexpensive, not in the same breath with Dino...

There are alternatives, but it will take time and effort to make up a similar assortment,
and possibly not worth the trouble.

Newco is an option but expensive and I mean REAL expensive when you consider that you are buying some screws.

Do not rule out the hardware store. In California my local True Value Hardware has an amazing selection of hard to find screws sold by the piece. I would suggest you give them a try.

Your post made me realize that I had the perfect catalogs already in my possession. Jamestown Distributors (boating) and Aircraft Spruce & Specialty both have huge sections on nuts, bolts and screws. Another catalog found in my stack was Restoration Specialties who also have a good selection of nuts and bolts.
Now all I have to do is learn how to identify the size of a needed bolt or screw! Wonder is wood screws are metric?

    Global metrics, Belmont CA.

Also don't rule out Mcmaster Carr. Just make sure you are buying metric screws.

metric multi-standard is another option if you want to do a ton of work.

I purchased the NEWCO stuff years ago and it saves a TON of time and aggravation even if it is a little pricey. I guess just like when you buy a prescription drug, most of the cost is in the upfront research. Their assortments really do cover all the bases.
