Yes, please a pic or two...

If you know it landing at a given location, then get the N number off the side of it and go here http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/NNum_Inquiry.aspx enter the number (minus the letter N at the front of the number.) It will tell you all the poop on it.

i'll have to try and bring binoculars to get the number off of it. only thing i have is it flies over my building a few times a week at random times, and it lands in the parking lot of sanofi-aventis. when i watched it land there was the only time i've seen it close enough to where i might be able to get a picture. but thats hard at 65mph

this is the best i have so far

as you can see, im not close enough to get a good picture.

Google Sikorsky or Eurocopter. See if a pic shows up you recognize.

that could be it. now i'll have a mental image for the next time i see it. for some reason i thought it had like small "wings" on both sides of the helicopter so that pic kinda has them as well. would flight aware have logs of flights that originate at an office building and end at, say, someone's house?

    Ha. Yep. Bell 222

Only one I could think of that looks like it has wings.

I blew up his photo to 200%, and while it's hard to tell, it looks like an S-76 type of helicopter; possibly a similar model from Westland or Eurocopter. It does not look like a Bell 222 to me.

definitely not wings like the ones pictured. i just remembered it had some sort of change. i think the sikorsky is closest. and since its owned by the company that i saw it landing in the parking lot, I'm sure thats probably the one

Looks like it could be an S-76 i.e. UH-60 Blackhawk, but at that distance hard to tell. If I could hear it I could tell you in a second.

blowing the picture up the exhaust is in the right place, the flat flight profile, and what looks like the rear wing i.e. stabilator. as well as the slope of the dash.

    I flew them for 9 years :)

thanks guys. after looking at more pictures im pretty sure that's it. although my other question is still about the trackin of the flights. since none of flightaware originate at an airport, do they not track them?

Flights are only tracked if a flight plan is filed and you request to be tracked. You aren't tracked in your car are you?

Helicopters don't usually file and ask to be tracked. That's only for bad weather situations which helicopters don't normally deal with anyways.

It's a common misconception that you have to file a flight plan to fly. You don't. You don't need to even be on the radio talking to anyone either. Just go fly.

makes sense to me. i just didn't know how it worked. i did think it would be weird if it was tracked for the CEO to take it to his hamptons house or whatever. I guess they only track to/from major airports really.

Airports don't matter either. You're only tracked if you want to be.

You can even have your tail number blocked so when you are being tracked its still only known to ATC and not published at all.

LaGuardia would get pretty mad at me if I took the chopper over NYC without chatting with them beforehand. Depends where you're flying.

True. But you can do it VFR and still not be tracked on Flightaware.
