how do they move around?

Over the years I've been on the same flight (not at the same time) as Fred, Massa, Ron Dennis & Montoya. All were in First Class except Montoya who was in Business with me, but I suspect he was going on holiday so probably paying his own way. Bernie though I'm sure he'd take private jet.

 

AFAIK, these days they're on charters - At least for the flyaways. IIRC, a 747 or two for the guys and ~6 cargo haulers for the kit.

When I was involved (a *long* time ago!) at the Euro races every team simply booked their own flights - Obviously often there'd be multiple teams on the same flight, and that could get to be fun on occasion

As for Bernie, the muckety-mucks & drivers, they're pretty much on private planes/choppers all the time.

Fred was actually on the same Singapore Airlines flight as me from Paris to Singapore going to the first GP here a few years ago; and from what I could see he was traveling alone. (and he won that "race" as well )

You are correct - Drivers move pretty much to their own schedule - which may or may not be on private planes - I suspect the latter more in Europe than the long hauls.

The Schumi's used to fly in on their own planes. Mike went as a passenger in his own plane and Ralf flew his own as pilot.

Someone on another forum flew back from a race sitting next to Trulli. In coach.

When Schumacher was at Ferrari - he had his own 767 Jet I would think that he goes pvt anywhere...

most of the high rollers all go pvt... some teams do charter / commercial...

Barrichello also has (had?) a private jet, coulthard borrowed his mates jet on occasion as well, until it decided to fall out of the sky.

Hamilton used to ride with Papa Ron, but he's mostly out of the picture now.

Sometimes during the European season Ferrari and Toro Rosso charter a plane together.

Indeed.

I can't find it now, but that pic was lifted from a blog quoted herein a while back - The story is pretty interesting. The author used to drink (a *lot* it seems!) with one of the teams in a pub in South London. He knows the guy with the *** going etc......

Read "No Angel-The Secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone"

States that he has his own Jet, and actually owns his own airport. Charters his own heli out of Monaco after flying into Nice, and many other tid bits. A great read if you want to learn more about Bernie.

 

How ****ing cool is that!?....

Friend from another forum who happens to be a McLaren fan had the seat next to Jenson Button on a flight from Toronto to Los Angeles last year after Jenson won the Canadian GP. Picture he shared on FB appears to have been taken at Row 1, so First Class. Friend is wearing the appropriate 'Vodafone McLaren' hat too.

Speaking of getting around, apparently Alonso is relegated to the back seat when Luca is driving.
