Wahhhhhh just because Ferrari and the Chrome Dildos aren't winning every race everyone is up in arms. This season is awesome, can't wait for Monaco.

I'd like to see a move in the opposite direction with tires: ultra-hard compounds that last an entire race. This would pose a truer engineering challenge for the tire manufacturers as well as result in a tire that was less stable in the early laps, requiring a steadier hand at the wheel. The other benefit - which hasn't been brought up yet - would be a significant reduction in the barrel loads of klag that currently build up on the track and hamper overtaking in many areas.

    Not a bad idea.
Make them hard enough to preclude pit stops and even more emphasis will be put on driver skills.

While I don't completely disagree with you and Gilles 27, I see the ultimate goal of a race as being to get the car and driver around the circuit as fast as possible, and a tire hard enough to last an entire race would not only detract from that goal, it could also be a safety concern.

    We're that only the case.
Today it's more about adding interest and not losing TV share.
