No affiliation. For those that don't know, Stewarts has a very good reputation. Stewart had a Dino himself that he restored and it can be found on YouTube....

'72 Dino GT - Owned since 2004. Sympathetic restoration maintaining the car's originality. Excellent bare metal repaint at Stewarts in Dallas in original Fly Yellow. All the glass was removed, reinstalled using new rubber everywhere. All rust removed and replacement panels from England welded in by MilCraft. Interior is original except for new carpet re-using the original heel pads. Fat Mat was installed under the carpet. Original leather seats are still soft and supple with a nice patina. The mouse hair on the dash has worn off but left a very presentable smooth dash that looks good. All new rubber seals. Electric windows are a little slow. Original raditor and fans rebuilt. New hoses and stainless steel coolant pipes. New water pump, rebuilt alternator, high torque starter is installed and works amazing. New battery last year, rebuilt steering rack. Low miles since Whitepost rebuilt the brakes with new discs. Same time had new suspension bushings. It does have an MSD Ignition. Carbs rebuilt. Top end rebuild with new exhaust values. New big end bearings, cam drive gear bearings, etc. Air pump is not installed. Transmission shifts great, no 2nd gear syncho issues. Ansa exhaust, not rust, sounds great. The wheel well panels are available but not installed. Most parts required were sourced from Superformance in the UK.

This is a straight, no stories Dino that is getting harder to find.

03540 is for sale locally and therefore subject to prior sale.

This Dino is very nice, and if the price is reasonable, it will sell.
I really like the documentation offered, there must be a slew of other photos of the bodywork, mechanically sound, so should not be a surprises car.
    Tools, jack, and two books!

    Regards, Alberto

What do you guys think would be a reasonable price to pay for this one? Also, any fears of a price bubble for these?

    Thanks,

    Skipp

Skipp, that's a really tough question. I would start asking the owner, then next step.
The market adjusts to sellers and buyers according to how much both parties are willing to.

The owner could desire $225k for it, or whatever, but is it really worth that? Have you considered a PPI?
An appraiser? Due diligence, is a huge factor in any business deal of a certain magnitude, and when buying a car of this value, a fair deal where both parties walk (drive) out of it happy is where it is at. No more, no less.
Expectations are one thing, reality is another, as we all want to buy cheap and sell high.

The rest is very hypothetical, as it's anybody's guess what makes people rock in these instances. The e bay auction is one reality, just a feeler gauge, but not necessarily the end all, as while you are intently watching the auction, the owner can arrive at a private arrangement, and..........
    bye bye Dino.

So how long to find another, and where will prices be tomorrow, and what if tomorrow is 'Black Monday' because Sarkozy lost the election?

    Regards, Alberto

The auction closed at $165,265 reserve not met.

For what has been done to this car, I am not surprised. The car would bring serious money when not being sold on eBay.

well, not really in my opinion. Yes the Dino is hot at the moment but $165k is a fair price for that car, fresh respray or not.

I have been shopping for one for awhile and they can be found in similar condition for that price. At $225k it would have to be concours perfect and that car while very nice would be an excellent driver.

    Just my opinion

With all due respect, I didn't throw the $225k number out there.

If you have been shopping, show me others cars of this quality for the $165k price. Really, I would like to see them. I have a VERY extensive knowledge of what is on the market, although it isn't perfect, $165k isn't the value of this Dino.

Last thing I need is another Dino, but at $160k, I would be a buyer only to turn around and sell it. If you look at was has transacted in the last 6-12 months at this price, this car is hands down the best of the "Drivers" in that range, and that is going back 6 months and then even more.

I am in Texas and know the people that did the work. They have excellent reputations for cars like this. It isn't just some respray that happened. Maybe I should shut up and take advantage of the value in this car not known by the non-Texas people.....

Fair enough and I understand that you didn't toss out the $225 number.

I had the opportunity to exchange emails with the owner of this car while the auction was underway as he had said that the car was also for sale locally. As I truly was interested in the car I asked him what was he asking locally figuring that I might be able to make a deal with him. He declined to tell me what he was asking and suggested that I bid on the car which I did.

I have never bought a vehicle like this sight unseen and would have hopped on a plane to go see it if I had an idea of what the bottom dollar was. Is it worth another $20k? Possibly. My comments were based on the pictures presented including one of the car during the restoration that included primer overspray on the undercarriage. Maybe that was cleaned up I don't know, we can only judge from the information provided.
We just finished a complete restoration on 03666 so I am nitpicky. I don't mind spending when the vehicle justifies the price but when you don't know what the price is, then I guess I have to pass.

Are those after market speaker covers? I thought the leather was always perforated with holes for the speaker rather than having a plastic cover.

And, if the buyer is planning on keeping the car in Europe, he will have to pay VAT on top of that price

We also get stuck with the same thing here in Ontario as well. It is the HST and equates to 13%. Do you U.S. guys get hit with these kind of taxes? I assume that it changes state to state?

Don't you have to include mandatory local sales tax too?

BTW, San Francisco combined sales tax...9.5%

Texas state law is the state sales tax rate is at 6.25% regardless of location. There isn't any city/municipality add on for vehicle sales.

Lucky Texas...I paid 9.25% in sales tax when I bought my Dino in Aug 2010. In Calif, sales tax rate you pay for a vehicle is based on the county in which you live, and unfortunately for me the sales tax where I live is higher than where I acquired the car in southern Calif.

Where I live cars are taxed at 3% when bought but capped at $300 no matter the purchase price.

Then, they are taxed every year (along with real estate) as property tax.

Say, for a $60,000 car, its about $1200/year.

Fortunately, if the car (like my Dino) is declared an antique with antique plates there is zero property tax. There must have been a car guy in the state legislature.
