Deterrent to Teenage Idiocy

I don't think there is a deterrant to teenage idiocy. I was a teen once and there was no helping me even though I wasn't trouble. I'd build a box around it out of 2X4s and 3/4 plywood bolted to the floor. Build the walls to the ceiling or someone will try to get on top of it.

Good poster though. However it may encourage rather than discourage.

 

Did you ask any of them if they knew who Ferris Bueller was before you printed the poster?

One strange thing I've noticed, is that the young people I encounter seem to have little to no interest in cars. I had about 8 20-somethings living upstairs from me when I bought my 355. They all had access to the garage in order to do laundry. None of them took any sort of interest in the fact that there was a Ferrari parked downstairs. Blows my mind. I would have freaked out if a Ferrari moved into my neighborhood when I was young, let alone moved into my building.

But if they are interested in cars.... I'd park it at a friend's house that night.

 

Move the car somewhere else. Do not think otherwise.

 

I have noticed this too. I'm 23, and I only had 2 or 3 friends that were even remotely knowledgeable about cars. The rest of them didn't know much about cars other than they wanted the latest Mercedes or BMW. It's sad.

 

I like that.

 

Does your daughter or her friends know how to drive a stick? Most of the kids today don't. No worries!

I do not think it is dying out just changing but heck I may be wrong. Regarding the OP's situation I still believe that young adults are smarter than they get credit for in some instances but a friendly reminder never hurts.

Very true. I've noticed this, too. I was shocked when my nephew turned 16 and waited almost 3 more months to get his license. I asked him why and he said it was "no big deal". I was down taking my test the DAY I turned 16 and was out that night in the mom's grocery getter.

Now this did change when I took him out in a friend's Camaro SS when I was home a few years ago. He definitely perked up then.

I think it's a Facebook generation thing. They feel connected to their friends / girlfriends no matter where they are, so the need to socialize is getting fulfilled virtually. However, last time I checked Facebook didn't have a backseat feature.

 

Strangely enough, I just realized that "that day" was exactly 22 years ago today because today is my birthday. I've been driving for 22 years. Wow, that makes me feel really old.

Very few of my friends know anything at all about cars. Some claim to ''love Ferrari's'' but don't even know the difference between popular models (355 > 458).

I'd also park it somewhere else. I'm sure your Daughters friends are normal, but you never know. When I lived in the UK, 2 guys in their mid 20s where leaning on my (then new) BMW, and put a beer bottle on top. When I asked them to get off it before they dented/scratched it, they told me not to worry because it was ''only a 730, the bottom end model''. If it was a Ferrari Daytona, I wouldn't be surprised if they had said ''don't worry, it's only old!''.

That is really all that counts and your a great dad for doing this for them. Hey you may want to check /ask your daughter and see if you can agree on a specific time and go start the cars and let the kids sit in them, I know that that would be a "cool parent" kinda thing to do. Turn them to the "darkside"!

It is the mobile phone you need to worry about.

The mobile phone can turn a nice little party into an ugly one. How?, somebody texts a friend saying they are at a great party and why not come over and join in, host will be cool, etc. ... next thing you have n number of uninvited guests at your house and it's out of control.

We had my sons 21st or 18th (forgotten) at my house, reluctantly on my part, and this was what my sons girl friend told us, and she also stopped a few of the guests from doing just this, so it's a real concern.

So if I was you I would attend the party and everytime you see somebody pull out a mobile just wander over with beer in hand and just make sure they are not sending out an invite ...

Graduation party, guests that are hot legal girlies....... I'd just be there, whether the cars are there or not, what an opportunity to have some fun and enjoy the view!!!!
