That is after ice, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, etc. Just had part of my jaw cut out a few hours ago. Instructions said to take over-the-counter stuff but really. About now am very curious about prescription alternatives. Sweet MOG this is getting bad. What is the worst pain you’ve had & what drug helped best?

If you're limited to over-the-counter remedies, this is one of my favorite pain killers.

(do not take with large amounts of acetaminophen, aspirin, or ibuprofen)

Was the surgery inside your mouth? If so, then sorry but that rules out any kind of alcohol... don't want to be dissolving the clotting/healing process. :(

I made that mistake when my wisdom teeth were pulled. The effect afterwards is referred to as "dry sockets". Now THAT hurts!

i had my wisdom teeth out at 19, didn't drink at the time, needed little in the way of pain meds.

Recently, I lost a lower molar to extensive decay under a 40 year old crown. Doc had to cut it into seven pieces to get it out, then did a bone graft as basis for a future implant. That eliminated any possibility of dry socket effect.

Generic Vicodin as post-op painkiller, does the job for acute pain but I have to take it on a full stomach.

Ok, just got back from the drug store after calling my doc. Now I have 2 ingredients. Tequila was a gift from my Mexican neighbor I’ve had for a few years (notice he drank half). Ah medical science meets the Old World & takes a bow.

Hydrocodone is worthless on me. Still, it is combination of acetaminophen and a narcotic so you definitely don't want to be drinking while taking it.

Alittle alcohol with Codone is the only way I ever recieved any benefits. I dislocated my thumb way back when and popped it back into place and was in immense pain. A buddy saw me and I told him what happen so he said "Here this will solve your problem" and gave me a Demerol tab, 30mins later "I love you man!"

When I had my bicep re-attached (ripped it clean off the bone), I was given Percoset. I took one and it didn't do anything, so I just dealt with the pain.

A drink works much better :D

I assume the danger is due to the combined sedative effect which can stop your respiration or heart beat, true?

I guess the other danger is liver failure since it has to clear both drugs out of your bloodstream?

I don't have any medical training so these are just guesses.

They have a synergistic effect on respiration and the combo is much more dangerous than either one alone.

I mean this as a serious question what about alcohol and asprin as in taking some asprin before you have a couple of drinks or while you are drinking? Is asprin strong enough to be a concern? Say between 500 and 1000milligrams.

Finally the pain is bearable w/out ice & acetaminophen. Went to work today & functioned fairly normally. Had ice bag on me at my computer until today for some relief after narcotics failed to do much. I did get a “buzz” from the hydrocodone but no real pain relief. I’m still thinking heroin might be the answer...

Is breathing really so much trouble? How much does one have to take to overcome reflexes? Can you tell when you are getting there? Do you just not care?

I have been on Vicoden on and off for years. I have severe back issues and recently torn tendons and ligaments in my shoulder. I have a highly addictive personality and i got myself in trouble. I recently started taking Tramadol as a replacement. It slowly kicks in, lasts twice as long as hydrocodone, and it very slowly ramps down without any withdrawals. It doesn't have the same contents as vicoden (not as hard on your liver or kidneys). Vicoden would last 3-4 hours for me when taken regularly. I get 5-8 hours out of this. It dehydrates you like hydrocodone but not as bad. Also, the more water you drink, the longer it stays effective. Ive noticed with excessive caffeine, coffee and energy drinks, it doesnt work well.

BC Powder is the only thing that works for my headaches, and if they are real bad I will throw in a Excedrin Migraine in the mix.

    I take a few BC's a week.

if you havent tried oxycontin, that might be what you need. I have a high tolerance for opiates. Oxycontin was great but too much to take on a daily basis.
