anyone have suggestion how to get this working? i've looked up the problem on line, but no luck so far i have a VGA cable connected from my laptop (windows 7) to a 32" flat TV, but i still can't seen to get further than "no signal" i've already gone into 'control panel' - 'hardware & sound' - 'display' - 'connect to an external display' - change multiple displays to 'extend these displays' i even tried to lower the resolution, but still the problem exists i know the computer sees the TV, shows listed in the 'devices and printers' as 'generic pnp monitor' , under properies it shows connected through 'radeon HD 6470M' i'm stumped?? thanks
VGA cable?? How old is this laptop?!?! kidding. It doesn't have a HDMI port? Did you change the TV to the correct channel? Or maybe you should do a re-scan for the channel?
My guess is you're not changing to the correct tv input?..... The 'puters happy! But you've gotta select the VGA input from the tv menu. Cheers, Ian
and, depending on the TV, a LOW resolution. W7 can typically pickup most mainstream TV's automatically, I've found the cheaper the TV the more manual the process.
i used vga cable because that's what i have is long enough ^^ the tv channel is the blue screen, all the rest are static, so that's the right channel i also checked the tv's menu and display, but nothing in there shows needing to change a setting??
I'm gonna guess you're mistaken with your 'extend display' setting in the control panel - you want that to tell you it's got two distinct displays - Then set the second (slave) to a really low resolution (try 640x480to start) and leave the master alone. Try that (that you have the blue screen is good btw). Once you've that silly display working, start cranking it up til it dies...... Good luck, Cheers, Ian
^^ i wasn't sure what W7 meant? here's what i see, is the 2nd monitor, and turned down the resolution i'm guessing that "extend display" is the right setting, as "duplicate display" doesn't seem to work either ...not sure the difference between them? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Windows version 7. Hmmm.... That looks pretty good.... Maybe try disabling the internal display and just using the tv to get that going. Then enable and duplicate? It looks like you're really close, just a q of getting it tweaked right. Cheers, Ian
^ i tried toggle between each setting, and reset all back to the start again, redoing, then restart ....still nothing? ...still just blue screen with "no signal" ...i tried the same cable connected to a dvd player, and works, so the cable is okay ugh, can't figure it out??
"Duplicate display" will echo the contents of the master screen onto both - ie, they'll both be displaying the exact same thing. "Extend display" increases your "real estate" onto the two monitors - The mouse will move between the two etc. Often used in photo & video editing so as to have the output on one and controls etc in the other. I guess this is on the TV? TBH, I dunno - Is there an "advanced" menu on the TV? Maybe the VGA port needs to be enabled or tweaked somehow from there? Good luck, Cheers, Ian
If you have a DVI-out or HDMI-out port on your computer, get a long cable for that and try to connect with it. Doesn't look like the VGA connection on the TV is working.
BTW, have you tested the VGA cable itself? Might be faulty, or one of the pins might have gotten bent.
yes, i tested the cable with a dvd player i have, worked fine ....i checked the menu functions of the tv, is a basic 32" rca flat screen, but it doesn't have any selections for changing the input as i can see i'll have to go get a hmdi cable to try it, i already have this long vga cable, which is why i'm trying to use it
I could be wrong eek, but that makes no sense. I assume it's got at least a couple of HDMI inputs + cable + composite + (maybe) component etc as well as the VGA. There's gotta be a way to switch between 'em - Else how does it know which input you want to watch at any time? Please post the model number and we'll find the manual...... Cheers, Ian
HA HA ...found it ...the silly buggers couldn't just label something "input" ...not in any menus, was a 'display' setting button on the remote ..and change control panel setting to 'copy display' ...anyways, success finally, thanks
