I don't like CF when it's just an added on accessory. It reminds me of when people used to paint gold on chrome. If it's integrated and lightens the car, I like it. If it's just slapped ontop, I don't.
But let's be honest about this, most people spec'ing a CF driver zone couldn't care less that it lightens their car. They spec it because they think it looks cool. So, same thing.
No, not really. If you replace one for another, that's fine. Yes, it is decorative, but at least it has a purpose. But, if you just label slap it on top it's not cool. There is something honest in showing the true materials a car is made from. We like it when we see polished aluminum over painted. But, there is something dishonest in gluing on a piece to make it appear that way. To me a CF piece on the roof and a CF pattern plastic wrap are the same thing: fake.
couldn't resist posting these pix of a fabulous Spider color combo Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

I didn't get the official name unfortunately. It has a slight flake/pearl look to it,and when the sun hits it,it really lights up. Maybe Kizdan can help us out?
I love the exterior. BEAUTIFUL. IMO, the quilted seats say "Bentley". I associate them with elegance. The race seats complement the aggressive theme of the 458 well.
Quilted not sporty for the 458, does not fit the motif. Standard is very nice, as are Daytonas and Race.
The more I look at pics of the spider, the more I like it. I think it's one of the sexist cars ever made.
I'm pretty sure that is Nero Stellato, the colour of my car. Nero Daytona is never really black, it is always greyish. Nero Stellato is much darker, unless hit by direct sunshine, when it gets a red copper sheen from starlike flakes. Here are some shots to show the colour of my car. It is very hard to capture on a photo. It is, by the way, not a three-layer colour. Onno Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I believe you're right. It looks similar to the car I photographed.Didn't know if it was a tri-coat or not. Thanks for the correction.
+1 Every time I see a black spider I regret that I have ordered Grigio T, until I remind myself that it will only ever look that good once, at least certainly here in the UK, and that is the day you collect it!
Wow, thanks for posting the "time lapse" pics of the Spider with the top going up. It really captures both the mechanical and visual beauty of the 458 in one. I have to agree with TheMayor: both a new classic and "one of the sexist cars ever made". Certainly for me the sexiest car currently made. The only problem is the cost of my automotive bucket list just went up by the price differential over the coupe!
