    From BBC gossip site ---

Mexico has signed a five-year deal to host a Grand Prix in the capital Mexico City starting in 2013. The race, which will replace the current event in Valencia in Spain, will take place on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, which last hosted Formula 1 in 1992.

    This is fantastic news!

Imagine if we get the Argentine GP and both US GPs, we will have about 1/3 of all races run in our hemisphere!

I'm only hoping Bernie doesn't put the Mexican GP squarely into the middle of summer. Somewhere in the fall would be nice and reason for me to visit Mexico City again.

Might give me a chance to hook up with Ron again. :)

Back to back Mex and Arg would be a worthwhile booking!

I'll stick with Austin over mexico. I'd prefer my head stay attached to my body...

My feeling is that Bernie is lining up all these American GPs to a) create pressure on existing projects and b) have an alternate if some of them fall short.

+1 and why not. The sport has more people wanting a race than the teams can handle.

    +1 "Supply & demand" anyone...... ;)

I also read a Pygmy quote the other day that said he believes with "better organization" (presumably of the calendar) they could go to 23 races!...... It's certainly being discussed in the Concorde meetings. I don't think the teams really want it, but hey, if it puts a further few hundred million on the table, they'll adapt!

    Cheers,
    Ian

I can't believe Bernie is serious but I'd love to see it:

There may be more US F1 races on the way as Ecclestone is currently renegotiating the Concorde Agreement, the contract which controls the location of Grands Prix and limits them to 20 per year. He reveals that under the new contract, which begins in 2013, "we could do in America very much like we do in Europe with three or four races in the same month. NASCAR probably wouldn't be happy. If we planned it carefully we could probably go to two or three more races."

I was simply arguing against my own overly optimistic comment of having 6 races in our region. As it stands we'll have to be happy if we get one in Canada, one in the US, 1 Central and 1 in South America.

I haven't heard about the Argentine project in a while and currently both US GPs are in jeopardy.

"New York F1 race in doubt - Ecclestone"

My contention has always been that the NY race was just Bernie's plan to put pressure on Austin to perform. I may have been right.

I've read that the teams have already accepted a 20+ race calendar.
Madness. But greed will do that ;)

I don't think so. If anything he is using all these American races to keep the pressure up in this hemisphere. But I really do believe that he wants a NY GP. Along with his mandatory paycheck. That might be the real issue.

    Might be?
He might want both but I think that there's little doubt which he wants more.

I learned to use the conditional when stating my opinion on this site.

Or Aircon will demand a source.

Positively correct. Besides that, I'd rather keep my money here in the US.

Mexico is replacing Valencia. Hardly a reason to cry a river.
