I will be driving from NYC up to Montreal next week for the F1 race. Leaving on Thursday morning. Any other Fchatters from the area going want to caravan? Do I only need a passport or is a visa required?

I guess things have changed. Used to be you didn't even need a passport.
But now you need one to get back into the US, so Canada won't let you in unless you can get out again. ;)

Gents, I won't make the race this year. However, if any F-chatters are heading up on I87, I'd be happy to offer some refreshments en route.

I'm right off the highway at Exit 14 (Saratoga Springs.)

Is this the last grandstand on driver's right entering turn 1? I was at turn 1 in '07 and remember seeing Kubica's crash on the monitors.

If I can offer any advice, keep your eyes and ears open if you head into the downtown area or little Italy.... This whole movement has escalated into something quite unbecoming of our so called students... I'm ashamed... I hope that they let the GP weekend go by without too much havoc.

They have not let it go. I was just downtown and there was a big protest of sort or confrontation going on. The threats to clog the subway continue. It's a shame really.

Thanks for the heads up. I only saw the protests on Thursday night, but the police presence ever since has been pretty big. I think they'll be very selective about who they allow into the subway station tomorrow.

So far from what have seen is that the police force here is nothing but professional.
They are doing a great job keeping everything under control and showing great restraint.
Its these young protesters that are egging on the police and testing their patience.
Last night it escalated a bit but still the police are doing their best.

Two cops per subway car and all 5000 are on duty this weekend. The ones I spoke to advised us ' no one is going to ruin your vacation '. Crossed fingers he's right, to date it has been perfect..mind you I'm not using the subway..
