I am well aware of the outlandish costs but I do not plan on hitting anything or anyone

I think he's losing some contact patch there.

Nice to see a silver one :)

you dont have to even hit a bug for a track day in an f40 to cost plenty....
not trying to put you off but when i did the first service on mine i immediately passed on all ideas of tracking it - simply not worth it.

I'm sure like everybody the poor guy who was driving the f50 at the time had the same thought but if it's a shared track you can't control other cars too.

Interestingly in the Bugatti thread on 'running costs' a statement was made where by simply slipping off into the gravel trap will set you back for replacement wheels and tyres, diffuser and splitter, 120k €, or a 3-4 year old Ferrari. (although the Bugatti is unique regarding costs).

But if you have it and this is what you want to do with it the cost is immaterial.

    Back on topic...

What's the diagnosis? Failed suspension or sheared hub?

I don't think it is broken, looks like he is running some serious camber in the front.

Looks like a failed lower ball joint. Could be wear or bottomed out the suspension very hard.

i dont remember all of it, but i will give you a few examples off the top of my head...
that front lip attached to the splitter made of hard black rubber....$900
a replacement turbo was something like $4k.

basically take all prices that you are used to from ferrari and double them.

Ah, but the joy of tracking my F40 at Laguna Seca was well worth the risk!! Of course, it could have easily gone the other way; just ask Bill and his Enzo from the same day...

I tacked my 40 the second day I had it. The track is MUCH safer than the road ...

After a few track days you realize that if you are going to do many more, probably should get something cheaper and easily fixable

Damage on the F50 doesn't look that bad, but with that car parts are made from unobtanium, so it may take awhile

No doubt it will live to see another day

Stretching your budget to get into the car of your dreams is the wrong way to go about it. You will be constantly worried and the slightest mishap will ruin your day(s). It will totally detract from the ownership experience. Far better to get into a car that you can enjoy without having to worry about money.

You will know when you can afford it. Don't get a car (or any toy) before you have this confidence.

F40 is a fun, scary track toy.

Just don't get in over your head. This applies to skills and money.

I don't know but I think I know this car and the owners. It is, and always has been, used as a trackday and Euro tour car and has over 30k miles on it much of which is around Spa and the 'ring. Not sure (if that is that car) what happened here though. I'll ask.

And meant to say: The F40 is a great trackday car, I drove Silverstone GP in ours when I was 16, it was the first performance car or track outing I drove, very intuitive chassis when you understand the power delivery.
