1999 360 PPI Results

Hello all, I posted last week about a 1999 360 being offered at Ferrari of Scottsdale. A PPI was done and here are the results:
1. Motor mounts and transmission mounts need to be replaced
2. The steering rack is leaking for an unknown reason.
3. Oil pressure gauge is faulty
4. Timing belts that were replaed in 11/09 are off from each other by 4 degrees (not exactly sure what this really means). So may need belts.
5. Few scratches here and there.

Now, the clutch is new, tires/wheels, brakes and rotors are all good.

This seems like a lot of issues, especially the steering rack.
Given that the price is 80K, I really dont want to put anything else into it at the present time. Any thoughts from the more experienced crowd would be extremely helpful.

 

You have answered your own question, by not wanting to put any money into it. Walk away and find a better car.

 

How many miles does the car have? and what about the clutch wear?

 

15,000 miles. Clutch with 1% wear.

 

Not a big deal, replace them.

Now this could be a big deal, they need to check into it more and come up with a cost to fix it, it could be minor but you need to know.

faulty in what way ? mine fluctuates and its not the gauge but the sending unit, cheap to buy a new one.

if you go on the 3 year rule you will need belts anyway in 11/12 only a few months away, have the belts done and drive for 3 worry free years. If it was me, I would do the belts right now and have a car with known condition and less worry.

At $80k the dealer should fix ALL the above issues for free, should be no question about it at that price. That is too much money for those issues especially not knowing what is wrong with the steering rack in advance, I can't imagine they did a PPI and found a leaking rack and did not do some research into it.

 

If your stuck on the car have the owner work the repairs with a reduced sales price.

 

The rack isn't unusual. Neither are the mounts. Timing belt issue is interesting. Pretty typical example of a 14 yr old car, I'd say.

1. Wearing items - have them done by the dealer or discounted off the price so you can have them done by your preferred specialist.
2. Not really a wearing item but deal with as above.

4. This yay or may not be an issue - the person doing the PPI will have "eye-balled" the timing marks. It's possible the timing is off and equally possible that the timing has been expertly set by a specialist and it's actually the timing marks themselves that are off. As suggested the belt change date isn't a million miles away so pretty much as per 1 2 and 3 above.
5. It's a '99 car and presumably priced according to age and condition.

In summary, I don't feel there's any reason to walk away, you just need to negotiate to have these issues put right.

Absolutely no reason to walk away just yet. If you like the car, negotiate the purchase price and/or repair costs. If negotiations don't leave you feeling comfortable then walk away.

 

Key phrase right there, this isn't a neighborhood chop shop. They know what the PPI would reveal.

Start with $77k, everything included, including belt service......prepare to go to $82,500 everything included

And tell 'em to give you a damn jacket...

 

80k is high even after everything is corrected in my opinion. Also do a search on Scottsdale Ferrari here and you might change your mind...

yes, fixed a long time ago and easy to verify the fix was done.

Is it on consignment?

If so, I betcha the dealer is looking for a bigger slice of the pie.

Use it to negotiate and then take it elsewhere (or DIY). Likely the list of "issues" will decline.

If reflected in the final price, no show stoppers there.

That price is WAY too high... Have the dealer fix ALL that stuff plus new belts, full fluid service, detailed and shipped to you and you'd have an "ok" deal.. Make sure it has all the fobs!

 

They should have been fixed by the dealers a while ago....mine was done last year during the 3yr belt change

The dealers told me when i bought the car, "look its been 11 years and the car hasn't blown up yet, waiting another year for your belt change really won't make a difference"

I think most authorized dealers will still take care of variators under recall if you get your belt change done there....

 

Has anyone had a bad experience dealing with Ferrari of Scottsdale?

 

FoS lost a lot of credibility on here last year when they offered a car that had clearly been wrecked as "no accidents, new condition". For that reason, you should be very careful when dealing with them.

I think the car is overpriced and cant believe the dealer is offering a less than perfect car. I would hammer them on the price.
