I saw that airplane do a fly-by and then land at HIO on it's final flight. Then, it sat with the wings cut off for a long time before he was able to get the logistics set up to get it to his lot.

    I think it's a novelty, nothing more.

Similar IMO to living in "a van down by the river", only on a larger scale.

Last update appears to be in 2007, wonder if it's done by now.

    I'm thinking no.

If by "done" you mean he can live in it, I think it was done a long time ago. However, I don't think something like that is truly ever done.

His last update is from 2010, and he wants to get a 747. It doesn't look like he actually lives in it, although I'm sure he could, if he wanted to.

    A lot easier, I suspect, than turning a townhouse into a 727.

I was in a restaurant in Costa Rica last week that was built around a C130.

I love the disclaimer he posted for people wanting to visit and have a tour.

    Sounds like a blast

I would go for the 747 too, even half of one would be better than living in a 727 tube. Same size as a 737, claustrophobic.
I guess for someone 5'6" it wouldn't be bad but I'm 6"2". No thanks.

Some architectural magazine had a story a while ago about a lady who had built a "dream house" and incorporated parts of a 747. She used the wings for two roof sections, and the nose cone and cockpit area of the fuselage was put in vertically, pointing up, to make a meditation room. Looked very interesting and well done, with sleek, contemporary lines and nice integration into the landscape.

Article mentioned that it was marked in aviation charts so pilots wouldn't think they had spotted a crash site. I believe the family owned Mercedes dealerships in SoCal. The house is in SoCal too.

    Found it: http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/video?id=8137233

Seems like a better way of going about it, rather than living in a tube.

A friend of mine who is a retired engineer has some kind of old fighter jet on his lawn (Los Altos Hills). It's under a canopy. The kids absolutely love it. He has sprayed the main surfaces and edges with a rubberized coating--that helps keep the injuries down.

It reminds me of the jet at Fiorano. The condensation on its wings can be quite slippery...and it's quite cold to the touch in the evenings, even in the middle of a hot Italian summer!

The 727 is being used as a fancy shaped "trailer" ... love the packing under the front wheel. I would not go anywhere near the "thing".

The 747 house on the other hand is a wonderful bit of architecture!

I recently saw one with a 3D projector A/V system and a stripper pole. I'm sure Boeing never thought of these uses during construction!

I wouldn't count on that-- some of the VIP interiors that get done are, er, interesting...
